A TSi is the turbo model and you said it's not turboed. This obviously makes a difference in what it's worth. Anyway post pictures and list the mileage if you want any real estimate.
 
Looking at getting another 1G. They want $3999 for this at a dealership.

The paint on the roof and mirrors is faded pretty bad. And the front has quite a bit of rock chipping. Looks like it may have been in a front end collision, as one light is clearer than the other, and the bumper sags underneath the headlights as if the mounting points are broken. I couldn't look under it because there was a big puddle in front of it when I checked it out this week.
Not listed but obvious is battery relocated to the trunk, and it appears to have a short shifter.
There's also a toggle switch and push button in the change holder. When I called on it, the guy told me it was a launch button. So maybe it also has 2-step or maybe anti-lag?
I'm going to see if I can get a hold of the PO and ask him some questions about it.

Hopefully I'll be getting to Rapid sometime again to check this out and test drive it. Assuming that it runs smooth and the turbo and everything else is in good condition, what should I offer them? I'm not going to pay $4k for an almost 20 year old car.

3500 would seem like something I might pay for it. Clean car, motor and interior. As RT-AWD said...check the switches. As for me...that COP setup looks kinda lame. If you were to talk to dealership to going back to stock with those coils it would be sold.
 
I bought a '97 ESi a couple of months ago and I went to get the car inspected, the underside is toast. NOTHING can bring this car back. I got ripped off by a kid I've known since 1st grade...I have to get rid of the car, It runs fine and looks great all except the frame I want to sell it as a whole parts car, what do you guys think is a reasonable asking price?
 
I"ve found some pretty pricy eclipses on ebay, so wouldn't exactly say everything is cheap on there!!! You can put so much money into a dsm but doesn't mean you can get back what you put into it, in my opinion!!! Like my car, I can put countless amounts of money in it but I would never expect to get the price I want, so these cars are more of a fun project and you can keep them and keep putting money into them until you get it to where you want or just sell it asap and move on!!!
 
This isn't a "what's my DSM worth" question so much as "what should I do with it". It's a 99 GSX with 158k, no mods, on the verge of death, lots of problems, too many to list here.

I'm trying to decide what to do with it, like trade it in and pretend I'm getting something for it, or give it to NPR or something. I want to get rid of it and buy a new car before all the stickers expire at the end of September. It won't pass inspection without some repairs being done that I don't feel like paying for.

I think it's probably worth pretty close to $0, but I thought I'd solicit some opinions first. Apologies in advance if this is an inappropriate question in the wrong place.

If its a 4g63 it will hold up if you take care of it. Not sure whats in your car but I have a 1993 tsi with 152k on it with some bolt ons and a clutch and its running strong. Pulls hard at 15psi.

Thats what i would like for it, but for some reason everyone knows that its a money pit. so im askin 2200. it needs a smog and has like 200 dollars of fees. i jus wanna get rid of it.

A car is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it. hence.. if you hold out long enough you may get what "you think your car is worth" but if you're not getting alot of hits or people become uninterested after finding out more about your car chances are you're too high
 
I just picked up a 1990 GSX for 700 dollars. Its clean inside.. it drives good.. just needs a tune up, qith 109,000 miles on it, paint is pealing but best part... its all stock. Next question where to start :) I think I got a steal and a good deal for my GSX. Its worth is to me.:thumb:
 
Thats a damn good deal. Start with maintenance. Get all of that done before you start modding and your car will serve you well.

With 29k miles, holy hell. I would pay easily 8-9 grand if it was bone stock, the car being modded actually brings the price down a bit for some people. I would post it up for lets say 10k obo and see who bites, people will pay what you ask for a car they want.

I actually had big plans for the car and had a 550+ hp setup that I was going to put in it, but I realized it was going to be hard enough to get 12k for the car vs 20k. I had 20k in parts alone that I was going to install, but it would have been futile trying to get that value out of it so I went with a very modest mod list. The car can be driven like it's a stock vehicle, but put down 350+ when you want it to. The mods are subtle and not over the top or take away from driveability and reliability so I don't think it'll hurt that much. I know it's going to take the right buyer, but the right buyer will pay up for a vehicle they won't ever find again. I can't believe it myself that I have this car in my garage due to the rarity in mileage.
