Hi all. Quick question. I recently purchased a stock 97 gst with a slipping auto tranny.I guy here locally wants to trade a 96 AWD Talon. The talon has a GT30r with supporting mods, ie, GM Maf, translater, shep trans, ect. The guy just had knee surgery and cannot drive Manual cars anymore. The question is it worth trading for.:hmm:

It would be your choice. Do you really want a GT30r car? Is it in good running condition. What are your plans for the GST either way?

I vote yes. Sounds a little too good to be true for all those parts but as long as the car is sound go for it.

Okay so i've had my 95 GS for 5 years now and I've been itching to upgrade for a while now. I found this posted on craigslist and the guy said he has receipts for all the parts and work he paid to have done. He said he did the motor swap himself but has receipts for all the parts and the machined head. Just wondering if the car is worth the $5,500. Any feedback is greatly appreciated as I know very little about the GSX aside from the standard AWD, 210hpw stock, infamous for crankwalk on 2g, etc. Thanks.

Looks good to me

Looks clean but beware. 5500 for that car in well running condition is too good to be true. If it's legit, u found one hell of a deal. I'm curious how many miles are on the chasis. My guess is 150k+.

That sounds like a really good deal for that price. Receipts and everything? It's pretty much a steal especially since it's "OBO" you can certainly play with the price a bit.

AWD is also a +

When I spoke with the guy on the phone he told me the chassis had 147k and that the rebuild had 83 miles on it. Not 83k but 83!!! Said he had to sell it because his girlfriend lost her job as a nurse and he needed to pay bills rather than continue with the car. He had the car listed for $6,500 to start but he said no one was interested in straight cash which is what he needs.

Thanks for the feedback so far. I don't know about the title yet either. Could be salvaged or worse... have no title.

man that looks like a very good deal...i like gst myself since i have one haha, but GSX are top of the line and this one as long as you get it checked out and is fine, should eb one heck of a good time:thumb:

I hope it works out for you. I tell ya, if the title is clear and the car runs fine with no major mechanical problems (engine or tranny, etc), then $5500 even with 147k on the chasis is a steal. I would be a bit concerned with the awd tranny with 147k miles, with my experience it might be time for a rebuild especially with those mods and how much abuse the owner probably put on it. Not saying thats the case, but ive owned over 6 DSM's to know by now.

I would buy it. As long as everything checks out. The engine is performance built with a lot of good name brand parts. I know a bone stock car may be the safest way to go but, I wouldn't buy a GSX if I wasn't going to build it for more power anyway. You would pay so much more if you bought a stock one then added all those parts.

If hes got the reciepts especially for that 6 bolt, then that makes the deal better because alot of swaps are done wrong. Personally i wouldn't buy it if he said the rebuild only has 83 miles on it. Why, because that motor hasn't been broken in and you take the risk of buying a car with a motor that wasn't assembled 100% correct. Reason why i'd never buy a motor someone else built. Good luck though.

those pictures are from 4 years ago!!!! jus wanted to point that out.

Yep, that actually caught my eye. With those mods in 2005, Im sure he got his fair share of abuse. Whatever you do, take my word for it, be prepared to replace something..perhaps often. Still, $5500 sounds a bit too low considering the work he has done to it..perhaps he knows something you dont know. He installed the motor himself? meaning he did the timing and everything himself too? I wouldnt trust anyone when it comes to motor installations, unless I really knew the person. It could also be that the owners build went wrong, and now he is trying to get rid of it so atleast its drivable back to your place..im just saying..not saying thats whats gonna happen but ive seen too many scenarios in the past 10 years with these cars and dealing with owners like him..keep your eyes open

Put it this way, if no legit reciepts WALK AWAY. Ive learned my lesson to never buy a modded up the ass car.

True, according to the op the guy installed the motor himself. Did he also assemble it himself? If so, walk away. This is not fun and games, this is something crucial we are talking about. Engines are one of the most expensive parts in vehicles. Unless a dsm shop assembled/installed the engine, or a professional mechanic installed it, I would never trust someone elses paper clip build.
