I am a new member and really need some advice, I have a 91 Eclipse GS 2.0 non-turbo and have had it for about 5 years with minimal problems, (outside the balence shaft belt breaking) i have only done general maintenance and a few odds and ends. Over the past 6 months i have had a problem with the car and it only happened 3 times. After driving continuously for about an hour when i press the gas peddle nothing happens, down shift nothing happens, if i push the clutch in the car stalls after stalling i am able to get it running again but it will do it again in about 10 minutes or after i let up on the gas, if i keep giving it gas it is fine if i stop it stalls. After going through that routine about 5 or 6 times the car will go no further it will take 4 or 5 attempts to start then it will turn over fine run fine and stall again in about 20 seconds. After the car sits for about 2-3 hrs. it is fine. It has only done this to me 3 times and stranded me 2 of those times. I have taken it to 2 dealorships and my mechanic and they have no idea, everything tests fine. I hope somebody out there reading this has heard of this problem before.

any chance that my cranksaft position sensor is going bad, the problem did not start until after i washed my engine, The car would not start at all then and my mechanic took apart the sensor and dried it and it started right up. Just wondering if anybody else has had a problem with that sensor.

Thanks
Ed

I had a problem on my Talon when I got the car. It would stall out after about 20-30 minutes of driving, but it would always start again. The ECU was bad, and the dealer found a used one and replaced if for me for free. I was relieved, cuz it would have cost a bundle!
