i am planning on getting the hahn racecraft turbo upgrade for my 1999 non turbo eclipse and i was just wondering what the best exhaust system to get for it would be and general prices.

In my opinion it would be RNR 3" o2 eliminator downpipe to a resonator and 3" pipe out the back, but if you are worried about emissions through on a high flow cat.

As long as the exhaust is free flowing and non restrictive there really is no such thing as the best exhaust.

Well First of all, Try the SEARCH button, it works wonders, and only being on this forum for 6 months, i have easily seen this question 12 trillion times.

I personally have a buschur 2.5" turbo back exhaust and I love it, it is a very deep and mean sound at WOT but at idle it doesnt piss anyone off. It also doesnt sound like rice.

I'm also about to turbo my 420a, and I was planning on getting a 3" thermal r&d. I've heard that a 3" can be too big, but i plan doing a rebuild and running a decent amount of boost so i think it will be ok. -Ryan

Get it mandrel bent at a shop and take a muffler in with you. This will give you teh best price and performance. Piping is piping. Have them make it as straight as possible and you'll be good to go. 2.5" would probably be the best for your n/a-gone-turbo.

for a 420a definitely go 2.5, 3" is a waste and will probably cause problems with lack of back pressure. 2.5" will flow beautifully and still sound very nice.

Why do you say that 3" is a waste on a 420a? The engine has nothing to do with what size exhaust you need, it's all about how much air you're moving. It doesnt matter if you have a 4g63 at 15 psi or a 420a at 15 psi, they're basically going to move the same amount of air. -Ryan

Yes it is, however 15psi does not need 3" by far, thats my point its a waste, a 420a will rarely hit enough air flow needed for a 3"

Unless hes going some insane setup before unheard of on a 420 Id love to hear your reasoning on how he would benefit from a 3" , the 2.5" would flow anything he could throw at it. I mean if you really want to spend the extra money by all means go 3" and be merry, but it is certainly not needed and I hardly doubt you will see any difference other than perhaps noise.

So Crawl, how much boost do you think someone would have to run in order to benefit from 3" exhaust? I personally know quite a few guys with 4g63's running anywhere from 15-20psi who have 3" becuase they tried 2.5 and it wasnt big enough. -Ryan

the engine most certainly has alot to do with how much air you flow. a 420a head will not flow as much air as a 6 bolt 4g63 head will at 15 psi, the head ports on a 420a simply are not big enough to flow as much air as the 4g63 head without a ton of porting.
hence why a 420a is not going to need a 3" exhaust. unless your planning to do a serious port job on the head, a 2.5" will handle the ammount of air you will put out. i know a few people with 420a turbo set ups in varilus cars, and the only one of them who runs a 3" exhaust has a fully built engine(with the head ported quite a bit), stroked to 2.3L, with an HRC super 20g.

Thanks for the explanation Cirus_93TSI, that's what i was looking for. I am open for suggestions, but if someone has an opinion about something, i would like an explanation of why. I guess I'm going to start looking for a 2.5" exhaust because i dont plan on doing any port work on my motor, I'm keeping the head stock. -Ryan

USE THE SEARCH!!!!

IMO, the Apexi N1, Espelir JGT500R, and Greddy Evo are the best exhaust systems on the market for DSMs.

I agree with Herostar. Pipe is pipe. Beshure to get mandrel bet with the fewest posible turns. With this kind of a quetion all you are going to get is a bunch of guys trying to plug their favorite exhaust company! As for the 2.5 or 3 inch debate. Crawl you are correct. I know you guys are going to say " So and So dynoed their ride with both and the 3 inch produced more!" Yes this is true on a dyno. At wide open throttle. But on the street where you rarely see wide open throttle the 3 inch will magnify the peaks AND the valley in your torque curve. And for those of you who do not know, A smooth broad powerband is what you need on the street. even if it means sacraficing 3-8 HP. I have alot of exhaust tunning expeirience on bikes and have watch alot of them fall flat in the mid range and loose a rolling strart race! :dsm: :dsm: :dsm:
