testing for bad maf?

Does anyone know the answer to this? I have a 95 Galant (which uses a 2G maf) that idles and revs normal when the MAF is disconnected. I'm pretty sure it's bad but wanted to test before buying a $412 part.

TIA.

Although I do not know how to test it, I would definitely find one locally or somewhere on the trader before I spent 412 dollars on one. That's ridiculous.

yea seeing as you can buy a gm maf new for 130, and a translator new for 200, which is still less, i have the volts for the gm maf if anyone needs those... LOL... here

If the installation and tuning does not progress as the steps indicate, the translator signals can be checked according to the following table.

Wires to MAF sensor:
Pink - +12 volts
Yellow - MAF frequency signal
Black – ground (0 volts)

Wires to Vehicle:
Pink - +12
Green – Translator frequency signal
Black – Ground (0 volts)
Brown – ATS (Air temperature signal, fixed at 80 degrees)
Gray – BARO (Barometric pressure signal, fixed at 3.9 volts)
White – RPM signal, connected to CAS sensor.

No LED blink at key on: check power feed to Translator, check connections, check fuse.

RED LED is blinking: The MAF Translator has internal trouble codes that are blinked out using the RED LED. The codes are as follows.

1 blink - in RPM mode, No RPM signal
2 blinks – no MAF signal
3 blinks – Internal Flash memory problem.
4 blinks – dial or switch problem
5 blinks – internal program problem
6 blinks – problem with saved settings.
7 blinks – unit detected a reset while the engine was running.
8 blinks – internal Flash memory reset.

Hey now, this isn't the board that I shall not mention. Only there shall RTFM suffice as the answer. I spent a good part of yesterday going through the backup CD and couldn't find the testing for it. Please prove me wrong that it's in there.

If testing procedures are in the Haynes repair manual, I would surely think they are in the Mitsu service manual collection. I would be happy to look in the Mitsu manuals but I don't have my hard or electronic copy with me.
