Whatsup Guys!
Last year a had a problem with the belts in my car. Everytime it rained I had the squeaking noise in the belts. So, I replaced all the alternator belts and everything was OK. After a while the noise came back so I went to the mechanic to have him look at it. He said somebody put the belt wrong and it damaged the belt, so he replaced it again. Now the noise is still there. i went to Auto Zone and they said it is my Tensioner Pulley and I have to replace it. They don't even carry the part so I have to order it from a dealer. I don't want to waste my money for nothing so I'm seeking help here. Does anyone had a problem like I do and if so what did you do. And second, could it really be the pulley that is causing the sound? Please Help. Thanks as Always!

the tensioner pulley is the one that puts tension on the timing belt, its inside the timing cover. does it sound like the noise is coming from in there? i dont exactly think it would be that making the noise, though...

the noise is coming from around there, but I also would think it is a belt not the pulley..although they said i can change the belt as many times I want it will still be the same. Maybe, but when I first changed all the belts It was fine.. no noise...

Could it be my timing belt????? Because it was not changed yet and I have 72k miles on the car. Could the old timing belt making the noise?

I think you are a little confused. Yes there is a tensioner pulley for the timing belt, but there is also one for you accessory belts...I.E. Alternator...Ect. Ect. I would go ahead and replace the tensioner pulley for this any ways. Its a start, It sounds as if your tensioner might be working its way lose. I had this same problem right after I bought my car. Replace the Accessory Tensioner add some new belts and make sure the tightness of your belts is to spec. And once every so often I spray belt dressing on my belts to keep them nice. I would also look into having that timing belt changed if you are at 70 + K miles and it has not been replaced. You can do it your self if you know what your doing or you can have a shop do it. The timing belt change is not going to be cheap. But its cheaper than buying a new head if it breaks.

Allright. The air conditioner belt is the only one with an auxillary tensioner. You have to remove the tensioner to replace the belt. When you see it, you will understand. It is held in place by 2 I think 12 mm bolts. If it's bad, check salvage yards and core motors etc. If not there, get from a dealer.

I think things got a little crossed between timing belt tensioner and drive belt tensioner, big difference, huge difference. If you have 70k on a timing belt, better get it changed or I'll be answering your question on bent valves and dimpled pistons.

On the subject of timing belt, there was a real good thread a few days ago. Check it out as there was a wealth of knowlege on what to replace and when to replace it.

If I can find the thread I'll post it.

Good Luck

ROFL I would like to know what test was performed at AutoZone for them to come up with "tensioner pulley".

If you have already changed the belts and you're sure that they're tensioned properly, stare at the crank pulley (the one alternator and AC belt are both attached to) while someone start the car. If you see any wobbling or horizontal movement on the pulley, replace it.

Thats the one I was talking about, I was in a hurry, Thanks for clarifying I should have read my post before I posted it.

Also, you can check the haynes manual or VFAQ.COM for the proper deflection measurement on any of the belts. I personally have had my alternator belt tensioner work it's way loose a couple of times, so check that also! :thumb: :laser:
