No. They are both TD05H compressor housings, exactly the same internally. The only difference being the size of the compressor wheel - the small 16G is larger than the 14B, the big 16G is larger than the small 16G, etc.Originally posted by '96_Talon_TSi
It looks like the 16G and 14B have the same size compressor housing. Is the interior of the 16G compressor housing larger in diameter than the inside of the 14B compressor housing?
It looks like the 16G only has 6 fins, but actually, they both have 12 fins. It's just that some are smaller and some are larger on the G-series Mitsubishi turbos (13G, 16G, 20G, etc).Originally posted by blwn2g
A little turbo 101 please...so the 2vain fins have better flow than the single vain? But the single vain has more fins.

Interesting! You know, I actually wondered about that after maybe 10 minutes after I posted that. Thanks for the info and clearing that up.Originally posted by kpt4321
The 16g housing has to be machined inside because the wheel is a little bit bigger.

Also, most 16G's are equipped with Mitsubishi 7cm2 turbine housings, while stock 14B's have 6cm2 housings. This allows more exhaust flow (and therefore is less restrictive as far as top-end power), at the expense of a little more turbo lag.
