Hey guys,
i'm somewhat new to this dsm thing. just a few ?'s

i have a 90 fwd tsi 5 speed w/ all the free mods (hacked air can, bcs, honeycomb, etc.) home made 3" intake charge pipe, fuel pump rewire, mbc set at 18psi on 110 octane, dumped exhaust after downpipe, kn filter, crushed 1g bov, 14b lightly ported exhaust and intake openings, and o2 housing and boost gauge of course. 245/50/16 nittos on the front and the basic wieght reduction mods (no spare, jack, tools, rear trunk cover, back seats.

my question to you is, after looking through the 1g fwd times and searching the boards im still unsure as to what the car will run, im taking it to the track on sunday, just wondering what you guys would assume i'll run. i believe it should be good for a very low 14 sec to high 13 second pass. after having it on the street i have run close and beat a lot of cars that i would think to be low14/high13 second cars, gt mustangs, lt1 transams, g35, 05 wrx, 70 gp w/ 462 etc. i would love to hear your input. and any possible suggestions you guys have would be excellent. can i turn the boost up anymore? if i do say set it at 20 psi would there be any substantial benifit over the 18psi i'm running now?

on the old street tires i would leave at around 3100 rpm slipping the clutch to net some decent launches on the street. but it seems once i hit full boost the car gets skiddish and breaks the tires loose almost always. thats why for temporary traction issues i have went w/ the nittos from my camaro on the front 2 rims.

how should i launch w/ those tires?

also i have a set of 2" lowering springs on the way, and was wondering if these will help or reduce the wheel hop/traction issues that i've been seeing?

thanks,
your help is greatly appreciated.

Nick

as for launching. The track that i run on (peasly 1/8th mile :notgood: ) has drag cars running all night along with just a general trophy class that me and my friends run in just for sh!ts and giggles (and our slips). For about the first 60ft its sticky as hell. i can lauch around 2500-3k and shift into 2nd about 5500 and dump it and go wot and i have never broke the tires loose (running 15ish psi on mainly free mods at that time last year). anytime im on the street though 2nd gear burns the tires off if i go wot almost no matter what. A lot of the traction is depending on the track you run and what other cars run on the track. Ive also found if I go about 75% throttle and increase from there i dont break loose, basically spool the turbo a little slower then hammer it when its fully spooled. on the street anytime i just slam on the gas and spool it up as quickly as it can it breaks the tires loose. and im not so sure about times, as ive never ran a full 1/4 track. i was making 10.1 on a 100 degree day with a crappy 60 (2.4ish) :shhh: and the car was boggin down in 3rd gear from shifting too early. definatly not the best it could do but that day sucked. I had only owned the car for about 2 mths at that point though and i had an auto for the last 3 years before that because of $$. And i was still getting used to the picky 2nd gear.

As much as i hate to tell you these are all things that are impossible to tell you. I could tell you how I launch my Laser, but you have a different setup and your track may be prepped different that mine. Just go out there and experiment with different combos. Take a pad of paper and write down what you did and the results. They change things up and do it again. After a few passes you will see what works and will be able to make some good runs.

A rule of thumb is that any time something is new, parts driver, track, things like that you shouldnt expect to much. Just go out and have fun and you will learn far more than anyone can tell you here.
