Take Apart Greddy Type-S BOV??

Yesterday I was under the hood doing something and I noticed that the hood has been hitting the adjustment screw on the bov so I took out the hammer and wacked that section of the hood frame in so it wouldn't hit.. I then adjusted the bov screw just to make sure everything was ok and when I was adjusting it the screw along with this small coil like thing popped out. I don't know how the little coil plays into the bov and how to put this back together.. any ideas on this???

I'm not sure what the "small coil like thing" would be. If you only turned the adjustment screw, the only parts that could have come off would have been the adjustment screw, the locking nut (which prevents the adjustment screw from rotating), and a flat washer (located underneath the locking nut). You didn't try to remove the entire purple cap did you? If so, then the two springs inside the Type S could have sprung-out.

Sounds like the helicoil stripped out, which is so ungodly common on those things

What should I do about this??? I don't even know how the "helicoil" was inside the bov...

The purple top-hat is made of aluminum and its not smart to thread aluminum and put bolts in there. You can retap the purple head or buy some helicoil which are basically steel threaded inserts you put in there so things like this dont happen.

I just had to do this to my cylinder head last night on 3 studs

Wait, so that coil was in between the adjusting screw and then purple top hole?? The thought passed through my head so I tried getting the coil back in.. but it's too big.. where would I get this coil??

The heilicoil is what your adjustment stud screws into. It pulled out correct? Your unable to thread the stud anymore right?

I don't understand why this was constructed this way to begin with?? Why wouldn't they just thread the hole for the screw itself???

Because aluminum strips out alot easier then steel threaded inserts.

the part where the adjustmant screw goes in stripped out on mine so i was just thinking about buying an ebay knock off one and swapping the purple caps...any thoughts?

That actually sounds like a good idea.. even better you take the coil out of the knock-off and put it in the original..

Go buy your local parts store (O'reilly's, Autozone) and ask them to order you a helicoil kit for the specific size adjustment stud you stripped outta your bov. All you gotta do is drill out the hole in the purple top and use the threaded tap tool included in the helicoil kit. Then you use the other included tool in the kit to screw in the helicoil (steel threaded insert) You will then be back in business and better then new.

I might be doing that... Do you know what the S Diaphram on this page is http://www.greddy.com/prod_bov.htm?? They said they still have that, but that is all the parts they have for the S-type because the S-Type was dicontinued...

If you look at the first illustration shown at this link, the part labeled "rubber membrane" is the part you are interested in. This rubber piece seals the upper "chamber" of the BOV (the chamber inside the purple cap that is connected to the upper nipple of the BOV.)

All I did when mine stripped on my laser was rethread the hole with a larger bolt and never had any problems after that. The bolt had a slightly more coarse thread.

My knock off greddy just came.. I swapped the cap and it's a perfect fit. My bov is like new again!

One thing I noticed: The knock off has a whole different way of sealing inside (pretty crappy, I'd never use it on my car) so the cap has large o-ring going around it. The real greddy does not have this so you have to take the o-ring out before you put the cap from the knock-off onto the real greddy bov.
