ive looked all over for this so... im having problems finding what wire out of the distributor that the green tach wire goes to... ive got all the other wires hooked up and working... but no actual rpm's reading on this tach. This is and aftermarket tach with a shift light.

thanx :dsm:

why do you need all that with a n/t? Im not sure about the 420 A shit but i know thre is a weird lookin plug coming out of the main harness by the driver side of the intake manifold. The other side of the plug is grounded on the stay. Once agian, if your talking about a 420a, this will probably not be the same. goodluck.

u need to find the "Engine ignition signal" from the ECU, that's the wire i used to hook up my shift light. u need to find the pinout of ur 2Gnt ecu.

hopes that helps

uh, im planning on taking the governor out this weekend, now there is prolly quite a few wires coming out of the ecu, any hints on which one it is, or should i just trace it back from the stock tach??

If you jump in to the ignition system at all then you will toast your new tach.
First: There is no distributor on ANY 2.0L DSM
Second: The Engine RPM is picked up from the crank sensor on both 4g63 as well as 420A
Third: You can just tap in to the same wire used for the factory cluster tach because the signals are going to be the same.

If it is an autometer tach, it might not work even when hooked up correctly. If it doesnt, you will need to send the tach back to autometer and have it converted to 4volt square wave in order for it to read the ecu properly. I have seen this problem on some Neons before so Im sure it is possible on the eclipse 420a.

Note that autometer also sells the "Tach adapter" for these cars. On my 95 neon I purchased both the tach and the adapter only to find out that the tach worked properly without the adapter. Point in case is that you still need to verify which system you have prior to ordering any parts. Thanks for that point 92awddsm.

hook it up to the wires that go to the coil pack it has 3 wires hook it up on the first one right side. i did mine like that but im using a tach adaptor model 9117 auto meter works fine :dsm:

I called Auto meter when i hooded up my monster tach and they informed me to use the black wire comming from the cap. attached to the valve cover on the lower right corner of your valve cover. Thou you do have a real good chance of it not working something to do with the 420 ignition system. oh and there is a good chance you tach will bounce at idle from noise put off my lights, blower motors ect. good luck it took me 3 days to do.

any hint to where and what color the original tach wire is?

When I pulled my cluster the back is all ribbon and etch tracing. There are 2 plugs that the cluster sets into and Ive tried every wire on those and none are signal wires or I wasnt getting any useable signal to the tach.

When I tried to look up under the dash for a wire harness it seems to be closed off by a metal separator that the cluster sets into.
