Just wondering if the Tensioner tool is necessary? Are there other means I can use, say a pry bar?

Any tips on how to get the T belt out efficiently? this is the first time Im going to change the T belt, BS belt and front oil seal on a dsm.

Dude, I'd say the tool is necessary to adjust your tension.
Prybar.... no way in hell that will work.
The last thing you want is to be so close, but not able to hit it... get it...
If you don't want to spend the money, then try this or something like this.
I made 1 out of all thread with the correct thread of course and just backed 2 nuts against one another and done.
Oh yeah, don't forget to grind a nice round tip to engage the tensioner arm.

They will save you time fabbing something that will work. Right now I am finishing my timing belt and need tool#MD998767 which is for putting tension on the tensioner pulley eccentric. You can do without the set screw, as taking off the auto tensioner is easy- the set screw just puts tension on the tensioner bracket so you can place the set pin back in (only necessary if you haven't taken it off already and reset it or you didn't get tension right the first time).
 
You can also use a 90 degree long nose pliers in the 2 holes in the tensioner pulley to adjust it if you don't want to buy the tool. The tool is nice but if your engine is in the car you can't get a torque wrench in there anyway (which they say to use).

Sometimes the drill bit measurement method is hard to see or do (eg. can't see if drill bit is parallel to tensioner top which affects measurement). An alternative way is to make sure that auto tensioner pin (allen wrench) moves freely in the tensioner hole after you turn the crankshaft and wait for the belt to stretch. Adjust the tension pulley to do this and it will automatically make the distance between the tensioner arm and tensioner body (drill bit measurement) be correct (.15 - .18 in.).
 
I need advice on how to properly tension the timing belt on a 1g 6-bolt motor in a 2g car using 2g upper motor mount? Thanks in advance.
