Okay my timing belt is bad. Does this necessarily mean that my valves are bent now and that the head is junk? I've heard from a few mechanics that it's a 0 interference engine or something and when the T-belt goes bad the valves bend and the head is junk. Anybody please help me it is my only source of transportation.

When your timing belt breaks the camshafts stop moving and so some of the valves are stuck open and the pistons then smash into them (this is called an interference engine - pistons rise into the same space that the valves open into). Usually you get 4-8 bent valves and your head will have to be removed and taken in for a valve job. The pistons may also be damaged but they are pretty strong and usually survive.

No it's not broke but I think it has a few teeth broke. The belt moves forward and backward about inch but won't rotate in complete circle. Someone told me to just cut the belt off at the top where the top timing belt cover comes off. Would that be okay to do without anymore damage?

What I would do is just replace it. You'll never know, until you do it. The elbow grease won't be as much, to find out by putting a new one on vs. taking the head off to look if you bent valves. There is a long but semi-easy process to replacing the T-belt. As long as you follow the tuners directions, or go to a page like, http://www.vfaq.com and follow pictured instructions, you should be fine. Also, you might want to replace your waterpump while you have that off, trust me on that, you can't replace it unless you take off all what you are going to be taking off to do this replacement. So spend the 40 bucks at O'Reily's and get ya one. As long as you have put your car correctly back in time, then you will know when you try and start it again. So, do this. DO NOT DO A COMPRESSION CHECK. Since you said your belt is missing teeth, you don't want to chance actually bending any valves if you haven't already.

Sounds good to me.

Now here is my situation. I have a rebuilt block with 42k on it. I purchased off of a friend for $100.

What all should i do for the Timing belt.

So far this is on my list

1. Timing Belt
2. Timing Belt Tensioner
3. Waterpump (good suggestion, thanks gsx tuner)

Q: Does the T-Belt have a gasket somewhere?

If the valves are bent say 8 of them are would should I do then , Would that make the entire head bad? If not what would I need to do to the valves and could someone give me a site with good prices on valve seats, guides, valves themselves etc.
I have to take my head off anyway to put on the new block anyway so should I just go ahead and do it. I have a mazda 626 to get around now(thank god) nothing fancy though but something for work until i get my dsm back on the road.

Thanks for the feedback everyone very helpful. Keep it coming eh! :dsm:

Okay I was starting to take the intake Manifold off with my trusty Haynes manual.
Okay one of the steps is to Relieve the fuel pressure.

1. Open fuel filler cap.

2. Disconnect the fuel pump eletrical connector at the fuel pump(see illustration.)

The illustration says

2.3b On 2.0L models the fuel pump eletrical connector is located in the trunk area, to the left of the spare tire under the carpet.

I cannot find this connector i have my carpet the spare tire and everything else out of my trunk/hatch.

Number two question

next step is start the engine and wait for it to stall.

My timing belt is missing teeth and I cannot start the car.

I need some major assitance and information and definately need to find the fuel pump eletrical connector :dsm:

If your TB does not go completely around, DO NOT CRANK your engine or you for sure will have bent valves. I would guess you probably already have bent valves anyway since it sounds like you already did this. On 2g's you remove rear seat bottom to find fuel pump(in the tank) and connector - I assume it's the same on 1g's.
