Hey, I would just like to post up here the problem I had with a talon today and the fix that finally ended up making this car run again.

Background: I had the talon in the driveway idling. Real quick, brand new rebuilt motor (rings, bearings, gaskets, seals, oil and water pump, 16 new valves, all new head hardware) anything you could think of. The car was pulled in the driveway running fine, I popped the hood and the car started to putter and die out. It did finally idle out and die. I though, well since the car is vented to the atmos. then that is the problem. I went to get in it and turn it over, no luck. It would barely let the car putter and then die. Eventually, I GOT NO FIRE FROM IT AT ALL.

Symptoms
-barely puttered and then dies, eventually wouldnt start at all
-all DUMMIE lights were on and would not go off
-factory BOOST GUAGE would not zero out with the key in the "on" position
-All fuses had power except the ECM fuse under the hood by the strut (tested w/ test light)
-Barely produced any type of spark what-so-ever, basically no spark.
-tested all engine sensor connections, none were getting power.
-no initiating click from the ECU (to let you know it turned on)
-no click turning the ECU off
-All options worked 100% besides the motor would not fire.
-IAC motor constantly clicked every second with the key in the "on" position unless I unplugged it from the actual connection to the wiring harness.

What I did to narrow it down
-changed alt. with known good alternator
-changed ECM fuse with known good 10A fuse (still no power through the fuse)
-checked every OTHER fuse in the car, all worked properly
-waited 15 mins. with car in "on" position to see if the computer would click over
-checked every ground wire
-checked every sensor in engine bay

I then went ahead and made the assumption it was ECU related. I did not, however, think the computer was at all in danger, just becuase of the fact up to that day it died and did not restart, that was the only time it showed an CEL or any type of ECU symptoms.

Reluctantly, I swapped out the ECU. Well, before I could even get the whole ECU out completely, I had already began to smell FISH. Swapped in the other known good working ECU and the factory boost guage zeroed out right away and it started right up.
