So when Optima's patents on spiral cell tech expired, Exide decided to jump into the sealed battery arena with a very competitive product the Exide Select Orbital. Then they decided to take an extra step and created the Exide Select Orbital XCD which is an extra deep cycle battery mainly used for off-road equipment or demanding stereo systems. Below are the specs for this battery and the Optima yellow top of the same size. They are vary comparable.

Optima D34/78-950 (Deep Cycle)

I have seen these batteries going for anywhere from $175-$250 online and locally. However I did stumble across this link here:
Procomp Super HDX

This is a rebadged Exide Select Orbital XCD. It even has the Exide Orbital name and 34XCD model number on the label. I picked mine up in locally for $108 but that deal is over. However right now (as of 11/7/08) they are giving free shipping for $125.99. It is a great deal for anybody looking for a new battery that will out perform nearly any other automotive battery out right now.

Thanks for the info, I will have to give it a try, my current batt is the walmart speshialROFL.. see if this 1 last longer then the 2 year old wally mart did:D

I might also add that if you go into the store they are the $170 some odd dollars. You would need to purchase online and select pickup in store to get the discount price locally. I know I never really need it but 1100 cranking amps is cool to think about.

LOL, I think it would be a great idea for my sub system that is being peaced together... :)

I have a yellow top now that one of my past customers swore was bad. Enough to talk the store owner to replace it. I kept it when we were taking a stack of dead batteries over to the jiffy lube next door to get rid of them. It still works great today. I know for fact this was over 6 years ago, since it was from before we bought our house... It's gone from the customer's Lincoln Navigator, a 99 Jeep Cherokee, 02 Grand Cherokee, 98 Prelude, 00 Taurus, 02 Lincoln LS, and now my Dodge Magnum...

Knock off yellow tops? I've never had the same luck with. My Del Sol went through 2 Tsunami, and one other knock-off "yellow-top" in a course of 4 years.

Exide is hardly a knock-off company. They are over 100 years old and do over 2 billion dollars a year in sales. They also manufacture batteries for the military and their batteries also are in the international space station's prototype emergency evacuation vehicle.
