Let me know if uve heard of this or whatnot..and if this is possible...thanks? i also heard a 2.4L breeze engine is the same as a 420a almost..let me know.. thanks

I have a buddy who put the 2.4 in his neon. He wanted me to tackle putting one in my talon too but I declined. Reason being why not just buy a turbo kit and be much more powerful then buying a 2.4 engine. And I'm not sure what kind of mounts and such you'd have to weld in and what stuff you would have to cut out. If you're not experienced with switching different motors into a car I wouldn't do it :thumbdown . If you are search some more and go for it :thumb:

Me and a buddy are swapping a 2.4 into his neon.

The only problem I can think of would be the mounts. If you know a good welder, shouldn't be a problem. Just get some new mounts made. I'm not sure about sensors and stuff working. I believe there are a few people who have done DSM's with 2.4's, but I'm not sure.

Just wait. I'll post some pics of my buddy's neon. We're going psycho on this motor. We're aiming for 11's, possible 10's after tuning.... All Motor :)

The neon motor is opposite to yours. the intake mani is in the fron of it. but if that doesnt matter they hey....go fo it .

if your swapping, it doesn't matter. I prefer that design anyway. Makes more sense to have the exhaust come out the back, instead of going through a 90 bend to go towards the back. Blackdog Motorsports make this awesome header for the neon. Its a long tube design and it just rocks. We can't get anything like that.....

theres more problems for the 2.4 swap then that. i think crank and cam sensors are in different locations, along with some other stuff. heres a link that i started to read but realized i didnt need to know the stuff and it was so damn long i wasnt going to waste my time. but i think it has what you want so read till your eyes bleed.http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=12217&mode=full

sorry, I should make it a little clearer.... this is not a bolt in thing. Basically I'm telling you it will fit. As far as sensors and stuff go, you probably have to replace the ecu, wiring, all that good stuff. Its not a weekend project.

BTW, I never noticed in your sig pic, Chris, the mustang. Looks like my drive way. I got a 2000 stang too.

heres the other things i was talking about with the crank sensor, not sure if it was in the other link. http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=23&topic_id=785&mode=full

John, thats not my driveway LOL. thats my friends driveway, hes got a 2001 stang. we live for our cars LOL. is yours a V6 or V8? hes only got a V6, but did everything to make it look like a V8... Dual exaust, Roush front bumper(stocker needed replacing anyways), Cobra rims, Cobra badging... SVT badging... uh oh....... OMG

Here is something I post about the swap a while back!

Anyways, here it is the list of things of the swap. I hope it helps you. I want the 2.4L swapper technicians to correct me and add whatever is needed.

I didn't do the swap!!! but I will!!!. I am waiting for the famous swap kit!!

All the info was found in 2gnt.com and gathered from all of those posts. Remember: there are old posts, so some info might be wrong and not 100% correct.

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING RELATED TO THIS INFO. I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANY COMPLAINTS. I AM JUST SHOWING MY INFORMATION, OK?

So here it goes:

Parts u may need:
-The 2.4 L block (with everything inside, even the oil panel)
-The 2.4 L head COVER (some people say that u might use it but *** said: It won't fit) ---All this if u want that ur head cover say 2.4L Dohc and not Dohc 2.0L. It is an easy thing, but an important detail.
-U might want to buy an AFC to manage the extra displacement. I guess if u are going in real power u might need it.
-Pistons, rods if u want to replace the stock ones and u want to feel the engine better.
-You need better injectors (I guess 400cc)
-U need a custom passenger mount (PITA is what some people still call it)
-The oil pan from the 2.4L not the 2,0L
-Water pump (as a precaution)
-Timing belt tensioner I know there are two types: but I am not sure which one is the best. Somebody say that any of those can be used it doesn't matter. I don’t know about this so correct me)
-I know u need the 2.4L corner bolts (4) of the block
-Under drive pulleys (if u wants)
-Pt cruiser alternator bracket
-U might need to have a bigger T/B to breathe better (the bigger the better)
-All the gaskets!!

Parts to be done:
-Turn the pcm(90degree) the cam magnet (I don’t know if it is clockwise)
-Remove the balancers if u want to rev more than 6,200rpm (U might feel vibration but who cares)
-U might need to get an aftermarket cpu if u are having problem with the fuel cut.
-Cut the hood sub frame because the engine is 1 inch taller or just get a tall hood.
-Dipstick need to be re-routing (I have no idea what the @#$% this is)
-The down pipe need to have an extra inch more (weld machine)
-Part of the oil pan need to be removed and welded a part to seal the hole left (because of the lower frame of the car)
-I think u need to create a bracket for the P/S and A/C (there are option that I dunnot yet, maybe with the kit)
-Fix the problem with the lower radiator house (easy I guess)
-Rewire some cables (I don’t know which ones)

Parts that u need from ur car:
Head block
Transmission
PCM
Alternator
P/S
A/C

I hope this helps everybody. I don’t know want to be responsible for whatever happens to the engine or your car. I am just a guy, who recollected the info, and decided to post it to help someone else that needs.

Also, I want to say that please let it be checked by the expert before any bad comments!

But in my case, I am going to put a Turbo in my car first. Due to the fact that, I can not be without a car for so long. And i don't want to deal with such a variety of Issues for so long (speacially if u are a college student without a garage, tools and a spare car).
So, I am turbocharging mine until the Famous SWAP KIT goes out to the market to make the Motor mount and wiring issues easy!
And then I will have a 2.4L Turbo! HAHAHA ( little Srt-4, But pretty! LOL)

The passenger side motor mount doesn't work, you will need a bracket made

the lower water pipe will need to be creatively held to the block, since the bolthole doesn't bolt up right

the dipstick will need to stick between header runners 2 and 3. Check the oil on a cold motor only

oil pan doesn't work well with the exhaust. Can be modified by cutting support ribs to make work with the crossmember, but for the exhaust, I am at a loss. Custom pan necessary

PT Cruiser alternator bracket works (can't remember the belt size)

must use underdrive pulley

recommend sandwich adaptor and oil filter relocation due to crappy location

custom ps and sc brackets need to be made, as well as a way to tension the belt

starter requires some notching of the bracket that holds the lower water pipe in order to bolt it to the transmission

the 4 corner head bolts must be from a 2.4, not a 2GNT, as the 2GNT corner head bolts (4 of them) are too short to meet the threads in the 2.4

2.4 oil pan gasket is needed

the main seals from the 2.4 are different then the 2.0

I recommend removing the balance shafts. They are on the bottom of the bedplate and can be removed by pulling 4 bolts and cutting the drive chain. There is now an oiling hole that must be blocked. I recommend tapping it and screwing a bolt in there, using red loctite

I also recommend baffling the oil pan if you remove the balance shafts. there is now a 6.5 qt. capacity in the pan which is too easy to slosh around.

2.4L valve cover doesn't fit well. Not sure if silicone sealant would fix this or not.

2.0 sensors (oil pressure, knock, and crank angle sensors) must be used. The 2.4 sensors don't fit the harnesses. Must get creative on knock sensor placement.

coil pack must be rewired: switch the outside wires

cam position magnet must be removed, the location nipples filed off, and replaced, turned counter clockwise 90 degrees.

Injectors must be rewired, move 4-3, 3-2, 2-1, 1-4.

This is all that I can think of off of the top of my head. I would not recommend this swap to my worst enemy.
