Sunroof Issue

Hello. In my 2g the sunroof will raise up and in the car i will hear a lot of air noise. It doesn't leak. Just wondering if anybody knows the solution.

yea im having the same type of problem. every time i slam my door, the surfood jumps up. it does not leak or anything. It its just because of hold the car is. Does yours leak?

First thing to do is to take a look at the brackets on the glass where they attach to the track. If you push up on the glass and the track stays put, then you probably just need to tighten the 6 or 8 small screws that hold the glass to the track. If the entire track moves up with the glass, then open the sunroof, locate the screws that hold the track to the car and tighten them. One of those ought to take care of it.

When you say it 'raises' does it pop up like it would when you open it normally? The sliding arms on the track would be the culprit there.

When i say it raises I mean that i can push it back down from the outside of the car and you can see the weatherstrip around it raised higher than it should be. Im thinking that its the screws holding it in because it will do it in the same spot every time.

So does it just stick up when you press the button to close it? If so then there's not enough grease on the tracks causing it to stick. The sliders need to be greased every once in a while.

If the weather stripping is popping off then use some heavy duty adhesive to stick it back on.

Well the weatherstrip is on good and the mechanical movement of the sunroof works good but it seems like the glass or the whole sunroof unit itself will pop out of where it should be on the car like it isn't bolted in tight enough. I can push the glass down from the outside of the car and then when I start driving again it will pop up a little bit.

That's more than likely a drive cable adjustment issue then. To take up the slack in the cables you'll need to pull the headliner, which entails removing the visors, A-pillar trim, and grab handle. It sounds worse than it actually is ...takes me about 10 minutes tops to get this stuff pulled.

Once you have all that out, you can get to the bolts that hold the motor to the sunroof assembly. You'll want to loosen those almost all the way, but leave them just barely holding on. Find the ends of the drive cables up next to the outer edges of the windshield...the cables exit guide tubes in that area. The cables cross in the motor, and exit those tubes opposite the side they control. So after the motor is loose, and the drive gear is not engaging the cable anymore, pull the ends of the cables to re-seat the glass and take up slack. Tighten up the motor bolts and you should be good. If you can't keep the cables tight, have a friend help you keep the cables taught while you tighten the motor.

If the glass won't seat all the way when you pull the cables, then you probably have some sort of obstruction and you'll need to dig a little deeper to see what's up. You may need to remove the glass and operate the roof without it so you can see what's going on in the tracks.

Sure thing.

I've had issues with my sunroof for a decade , so I'm pretty familiar with the thing. The ultimate way to see what's going on with the mechanism is to pull the entire assembly from inside the car, set it on a thick blanket/towel on the roof over the hole, plug it back in and operate it. This way you get a look at the entire thing as it moves. Kind of a pain, and really a last resort, but I thought I'd throw it out there. If you end up doing that, just be ready to catch it as the glass moves back in the tracks and shifts the weight...it'll want to roll back onto the hatch.

Mine does the same thing, i think i just need to tighten some of the bolts though...mine stays shut up untill about 50 or 60 mph... then pops a little and you hear air....but DOESNT leak. I havent gotten around to look at it really and its 20 degrees here in Michigan at the moment. (Not to mention in the summer and spring and even fall it is almost ALWAYS open, even when it rains its popped open...i like fresh air ahha)

Thats EXACTLY what mine does. I'm going to grab some loc-tite and put the screws back in on the sides.

Ok so i just put the 3 star head screws on each side back in and tight so im pretty sure that will fix the problem. Ill see if it does tomorow.

Ok so tightening the 3 screws on each side of the sunroof from the inside fixed the problem i was having. They were pretty loose so i just tightened them back up and its all good now.
