there are different types of sub boxes (ported, sealed, etc..) how much of a difference is there are which would you guys recommend? thanx!!

Sealed: Great for rock music, classic, and anything that needs a real punchy bassline such as a kick drum, where it's really tight. usually requires a little more wattage to sound great. takes up less space than the others too usually (depending on woofer req.)

Ported: great all around box. can be slot ported or round ported depending on subwoofer and tuning frequency. by change the port dimensions, you can adjust the tuning frequency. musical styles... as mentioned, great all around box requiring moderate wattage. (also most popular)

Bandpass: great for low bass such as rap music. not good for much else. low to medium wattage.

so depending on your style of music, or what you want to get out of your system, those are your options. go to a local shop and listen to the 3 different style boxes, try to find the same subs (or similar) in each box. and use the same amp to listen to all 3 so you get a fair comparison.

a ported box also adds making more power so basically like you have a more powerful amp,if you go to the store like he said make sure they use the same amp for all three so you will get a good test, you have to watch it with these sales people,LOL.

i like the ported just because with any music it sounds good, but if you listen to rap, it puts out the best quality of sound in my opinion. My setup is two 12" Audiobahn Subs, and a 2400 Watt Amp (dunno who makes it, but sounds good :) )....

the only bad thing about a ported box is that you really do need a passive crossover to remove frequencies below your enclosures tuning frequency.

IF you are tuned at 35 hz it's not a big deal, if you are turned at 45 it can be.

The other thing is a ported box is usually much bigger (as much as 2x bigger) and really needs to be computer designed to match with the subs and music. Any COMPETENT shop can help you, but how many COMPETENT shops you know of that are cheap?
