Rickshaw,
i've searched for a long time, and can't seem to find it, or threads are unfinished.

i'm am now in the midst of getting my fasteners, and i can get metric fasteners locally.

is it safe to change exhaust studs to socket bolts with lock washers?

I don't know what the consensus is on this, but if it helps out, my car came with about half studs/half bolts. They didn't back out, didn't leak exhaust.

If you are worried about the factory studs breaking, get stainless steel studs from here:

I ordered the exhaust and intake kits for my son's car and was very pleased. They are also a sponsor on this site.

I don't see why bolts and lock washer won't work, however, make sure the length is correct. I would be worried, though, about possibly causing some damage to the head, if the bolts were too long. I prefer using the ss studs and copper locking nuts.
