Doing my rear pads and new rotors all around.. got the back all done although that was a PITA alone. I'm on the front driver's side now.. got all caliper bolts off.. knocked the rotor loose.. but now it won't slide all the way off.. I try to pull it off every way I can possibly think of. It just teeters side to side, up and down. Has anyone else had this issue?

So, you are saying it came loose from the backing plate but won't slide off the hub? You might take some emery cloth to clean up the hub. Worst case scenario is use a torch to heat or in extreme case cut the rotor. Remember, if it jams, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway. Just kidding. I would try the emery cloth first.

Good LUck

I wound up getting it off by spinning it and hitting it, spinning it and hitting it... like 100x. Finally came off.. now on to the LAST rotor and this one is completely stuck to the hub.. Budges like a hair and won't go past that.. been hitting it and spinning it like 1000x..

I have had the best luck using a heavy (read: 5lbs) dead blow hammer.

Something else I have done in the past, is to heat the rotor hat with a torch, (not red hot) then quickly cooling it with water, repeatedly. The cycling between hot and cold (expanding and contracting) will help break the rust free between the rotor and the hub. Be cautious not to get it so hot as to damage the wheel bearing seals. Continue beating with a hammer between cycles.

I prefer the dead-blow, though.

The bolt and nut trick works well for me. I think it is in the vfaq somewhere. Very simple. Take a bolt that fithe through the bolt hole for the caliper mount. put a nut on the other side of the mount on that bolt. Tighten the bolt all the way to the rotor. Then walk it of by tighting and turning little by little. I dont like beating things with hammers unless I have to. I dont mind beating people though....:thumb:

Did you tried threading a bolt through one of the extra bolt holes on the rotor?

The front rotors have these two big holes with no threading.. the back ones were easy.. they had little threaded holes.. I sprayed it down with PB Blaster and I'm leaving it over night and spraying it in the morning again. I'm gonna go buy a big 5lb hammer tomorrow. If that doesn't work I'll try the bolt and nut trick.

+1 for the hammer method (READ: BFH). I just did mine this past weekend worked great. I initially tried the bolt thread method on the front of the rotors but they were to frozen on and the bolt snapped. Bashed the evil rotors with a hammer while turning it and it came off after about 2 minutes. I do advise cleaning the hubs off as best as possible though and lube everything good.

try using oatey abrasive screening. You can get a roll in just about any plumbing section for 10.00. Similar to emery cloth except that its more abrasive with stronger edges. Similar to emery cloth except that its a screen so your not sanding the same material over and over again.

When you put your new rotors on clean the hub, and coat them with some anti-seize. Just the centric portion of the hub and around the base of each lugnut. Make sure you wipe off any excess before you put your pads on.

Ok.. brakes are all done.. here's what happened.. let the rotor soak in PB Blaster overnight.. went out and bought a 4lb sledge hammer.. Got back to my house and tried banging on it for a while.. NO LUCK.. Went back out to the hardware store and bought a bolt and nut to tray that trick in VFAQ.. Totally forgot that you had to buy two sets.. and wound up breaking the bolt right away.. Took out the hack saw... sawed the wedge bolt off.. Went back out the hardware store and bought two sets of bolts and nuts.. Tried the trick again.. this time following the directions and not tightening it too much.. After the second turn there was a *CRACK*. Started banging on it with the sledge hammer and within two minutes the rotor came off.. :D :D :D :D

That trick on VFAQ is great. Thank you everyone for all the help!
