:banghead: Ok so I finally got around to trying to install the big break upgrade on my car and the drivers side rotor won't come off. So far I've used about a can of PB Blaster, used the technique on VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions, used a hammer, used a bigger hammer, and tried using the threaded holes in the rotors but of course they were useless and rusted. Anybody got any ideas on this.

What was the bigger hammer?

You need an 8lb sledge. Get big swings and hit on the outside of the rotor.

Hammer till it comes off.

Just hammer the crap out of it, in the end it always comes off, just be carefull when taking the homerun swing not to damage anything else.

I had this problem on one of my cars. I just kept hitting the rotor with a 2-4lb hammer, as hard as i could while still controlling where i hit. I had to do this for a good 20 mins before it came off... Make sure you don't just hit it in one spot though, you need to alternate all around the rotor.

I've always had good results by hitting it with my 3lb sledge at the hat section of the rotor. This is where the wheel contacts the rotor and where it is actually stuck. Rotating it while I'm hitting it. Comes off every time! :thumb:

Heat it up with a torch, all around the bolt holes and such.

While it's still hot spray pb all over it and around it, it's gonna smoke like a cheech, so watch out.

Then take a hammer and just beat the piss out of it. Seriously, don't be stingy, just don't miss a swing and break your fender.

That WILL get it off, I promise.

guys......though beating the rotor will get it off....its not terribly good for the wheel bearing. ask me, I'll tell you! been there done that.

I think he should give the V-Faq method another try. I've had great success using that method, and I've encountered a few pretty bad ones.

Yeah just watch where you hit and you will be alright. I usually heat it up with a torch as well, and spray it with lots of PB , and its fine

I went thru the same thing on my first 92 TSI, tried everything and I just so happened across 8" 3 Jaw Reversible Puller for $10.00 at a local used tool store. ;) It fits around the whole disc and was pretty easy with an impact wrench. I am sure you can get the same result with a cheater bar.

Good luck!

Good luck!

I got one of those pullers, and yet I never thought about using it for removing a rotor. I always used to beat it like it owes me money LOL

YUP when mine finally broke free, I hears a loud pop like I broke something and there it was begging to come off... :hellyeah: I hope you get it, I remember my frustration. Ha Ha

The rotors are so bad that the bolts just keep punching holes in the rotors with the V-faq method. Heat and a hammer or the puller if I can find one seems like my next options. Thanks for the help guys

I have the same issue as you, bolts kept breaking through, eventually you'll keep tightening and it will get to a stopping point, at that time I leave the bolt in there and start hitting it with a 3lb sledge, and was finally able to get one of in about 10 minutes. I'm working on the second side right now. I think the key is keeping pressure on one side and then hammering all around the rotor. I also used a good amount of PB Blaster.

The bolt trick worked for me when hours of hammering didn't,use flat tip bolts and get a piece of scrap metal between it to distribute force. Are you rotating the rotor so you don't keep punching holes?

men if no come out with none of this metods, use some C4 and blow it to see if this comes out

Lol I can see it now, the car is destroyed but the rotor and wheel bearing are still intact and still stuck together. Then out of nowhere a 2 yr old kid comes up and pulls the rotor off.

Just hit it all around the outer edge and then right near the lugs. A few big hits will knock it loose. Dont be afraid to lay into it since you are replacing the rotor. The bolt trick is a waste of time IMO. GL

Hey guys just wanted to give yall an update on this and the new problem. I sprayed in down with more PB Blaster and let it sit overnight. I got a 5 pound sledge and beat the hell out of it to no end but it didn't budge. I was going to get a puller from Autozone but I figured I would give the vfaq method one more shot first. So here I am tightening the bolts down from behind the rotor and I here a snap. I'm thinking great, its gonna come off. I check the rotor and it hasn't budged. WTF? I get my flashlight and start looking behind the rotor thinking maybe the bolt snapped a piece of it off again but its fine. Instead of pushing the rotor off it snapped the ear the bolt was through. You know the one where the caliper mounts up. Are you kidding me? So now I'm in the market for a new drivers side hub. Let me know if anybody has one. Hell I might take both fronts off your hands just to be safe. Thanks for all the help guys.
