Alright I tried using 'search' but I didn't come up with the same exact problem I'm having. Ok so sometimes when I'm driving and I need to put 'er in 1st gear (like if I'm at a stop sign or a redlight) it won't go in  it's almost like the shifter is hitting against something. It'll go in if I keep trying over and over, but it's really annoying, not only for me but for the people behind me thinking "It's not gonna get any greener pal" :coy:

It doesn't pop out of gear, and I don't think it has anything to do with the clutch itself. I should have someone move the shifter in 1st 'till it does it again, and watch whats going on where the cables connect to the tranny like Lofty said.

If anyone else has any ideas what it could be, feel free to leave your input.

have you ever taken off from first and when you try for second, it gives you a grind??

or do you downshift a lot? ### i will just downshift all the way to first at a light and hold the clutch in with first engaged the whole time. You could have messed up your syncros, or they are shot. How many miles on your tranny??

Sounds like bad first gear synchronizer I messed mine up from running really thick oil and trying to put it in first while I was still moving

Sometimes mine doesn't want to go into 1st at a light or something, so I let the clutch out slightly until it slips into gear. Works every time, and with reverse too.

This is exactly what i do when the tranny wants to be funny..

*offtopic* My gearbox is all messed up. Third to second gear downshift is always a grind. So embarrassing. And second gear is the coolest gear to roll up to a stop light.specially when you have an exhaust.

What an honor!

I was gonna throw up that link, but it didn't sound much like syncros.

Thats the problem, mine would go in TOO easily.

;)

And, worse comes to worse, you throw in a new trans.

No big deal.

Appreciate everyones input, but this has nothing to do with grinding, I know why my car grinds in 1st, it has a worn out synchro that's a whole other subject. My problem is it sometimes just flat out refuses to go in 1st. It feels like the cable is jammed of something, I'm gonna check the cable today when I have a chance.

When I think about it, it seems like this started happening after I put on some new aluminum cable bushings. Anyone whos ever installed these knows you have to pull off the cable retainer clips so you can move the cables easier, I wonder if I didn't put them back on tight enough or something like that :hmm:
