I am not new to the dsm world ( this is my second with the first topping out at 480whp out of a Galant VR4). So please no stupib newbie comments.

I am now building a 90 tsi with a completely fresh motor that i have about 3k on. Last week I started having a strange problem with how the car runs. I let the clutch out and get to about 1800 and I get a bad hesitation, the boost gage goes to max(stock). It kicks and bucks then when the real boost comes it take off like a raped ape. Once I get into real boost it seems ok. I do not have a logger on this car as of yet and I check the caps on the ecm and they are new. I did a tune up on it about 1k ago.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and look forward to some possible solutions.

Top three responses will be
Have you done a Boost Leak Test?
Checked the hoses for cracks?
is your BISS adjusted correctly?

Another thing is, did you use NGK plugs? Some have noticed that their cars go to crap when using a different plug.

and think about it if your boost gauge is spiking the boost is getting trapped causing it to studder, then when you hit high boost it may have the pressure to go somewhere, what kind of blow off valve are you running.

Step 1:
Get a real boost gauge

Step 2:
Boost leak test

Your stock gauge is just a measure of what the ECU thinks it's seeing. High airflow measured by the MAS, like one caused by a boost leak, makes the ecu think you're flowing a low of air when you really aren't. This causes you to run rich. That's why your injectors smell like gas.

Agreed check to see if you have boost leaks that is the first thing I would have done before asking. It's kinda standard on all boosted cars that are being tuned especially because boost leaks cause issues like yours. My question is are you still recirculating the air from the BOV? Or did you do remove vaccum lines. Spiking happens usually when you have your BOV and waste gate tapped into the same vacuum line. Thats a big no no even when your not running high boost it still causes issues. Let us know
