Ok guys, I have done some research and haven't found much on this. So basically I bought a 1990 eclipse gsx 5spd from the second owner and when I got the car it was in tear down process. The guy (second owner) that I bought the car from was tearing it completely down to rebuild the motor with good internal components due to a timing belt break . I know this guy very well and he knew the first owner very well. The first owner only had the car for 50k miles and 15 years and never had any turbo problems and for other reasons parked the car for the last 5 years (2000-2005) well my friend bought the car and got it running and drove it for another 3 years and 20k miles till the timing belt broke and trashed the head so he decided to do the total tear down ( again, no turbo problems) well when I got the car most of it was in boxes and I have been putting it back together , I even bought a new s16g to use instead of the 14b that came with the car (got a really good deal) well it turns out after looking at the original turbos #s that it is actually a s16g and not the 14b. Is there any way possible that a few of these cars came from the factory with a s16g? This really has me stumped because as far as I know and the two other owners it's the original turbo.

Nope, someone put it in there man. Does it least have a FMIC, Injectors, tuning, or at low boost? The 16 is from an Evo stock.

I have all that stuff I am putting on the car but what my buddy gave me didn't have anything. It was all stock in boxes, LOL

Turbo part numbers aside, does it appear to be a 16 g turbo when looking at the compressor wheel? Either you mixed up the numbers when double checking and its a 14b or someone in the cars history installed a small 16g which is not oem/ native to your car. The small 16g would be closest in size to a 14b so if someone were to replace the turbo at some point with a new one, this would be a much more affordable option. New 14b turbos bring crazy money from the dealer. Who knows what exactly happened but its not stock.
