Hi I have a stock 91 tsi awd auto (smaller injectors), had some more problems so I pulled the turbo and put a small 16g in with a 2g manifold. Everything else on the car is 100% stock, is there anything I should worry about? I find this turbo takes a bit more to spool up, which is fine with me, once it hits boost its a lot nicer.

Question is, should I change anything else to keep this setup working optimal? (did the basics such as checking for any vac leaks, new ecu, tcu, new o2, new iac, new plugs, new wires).

Nicker, there is a reason why there are other parts offered in the aftermarket community. If you are simply asking if your setup will be okay regarding regular driving (aka low/no boosting), then yes, you should be fine. However, if you decide to go WOT in the future, other upgrades should be made (such as the fuel components).

Also remember to change all of your belts if you have not already done so. And remember to check the air filter to see if it's clogged or needs replacing. If it needs replacing, you can replace it with an aftermarket filter. Here is one that is quite cheap. In addition, you may want to use Sea Foam and Deep Creep to clean out some of the gunk and grime on the inside of the engine. Here is a long thread regarding Sea Foam.

You can also perform a compression test and leak-down test on the engine, to check that it is working adequately.

If you have any other general maintenance questions, please look on VFAQ. And don't forget to look at the 1G upgrade section on this site.

Having a small 16g on a stock car will be fine. Just as long as you dont try to go over the stock boost setting. Of course the turbo will really wake up when you do the basic supporting mods. (I, TBE, Boost gauge, MBC, fuel pump, and fuel pump rewire) The car WILL be ok with just the turbo though for a daily driver. I have that same turbo on my 1g with no other mods on it and its fine.

If you did not change the injectors I would not even go WOT. Being that your an auto you only have 390cc injectors. So get a at least a 190lph pump and some 450cc injectors and you should be fine for about 14-15psi.Buy a logger just to be sure though.:thumb:

Ive been researching a lot about fuel system. I found that the 450's are actually 410's. At least a lot of reputable people say this. Even with the 390's you should be ok. Keep the boost under 11psi and get a logger to make sure that your not knocking.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Yep I changed out the old belts and air filter too, fuel filter, all the regular maintenance I just about got covered. As you guys mentioned, I was leaning towards the fuel system, i.e.. injectors, pump and voltage. I just use the car as my daily driver so it’s not going to be a race car for me, but I would not want to run into a lean condition and blow a hg. Im okay without trying seafoam, car seems to be running fine and not much need to clean it out that bad. If anything, would you guys recommend a hotwire kit for the fuel pump, or would I need a new pump to go along with the hotwire kit?

Much like everyone else said just upgrade some of the fuel components and get a logger of some sort to monitor your knock. It will be tempting to go WOT at times but until you have some of the supporting mods I would hold off.
