Hello,

Looking to see how fast a stock, automatic, fwd 420a runs in the 1/4 or 1/8 mile? I'm looking to try and make one run at least a 15.60 in the 1/4 mile without porting the heads or changing camshafts while weighing no less than 2450# with me in it. I pretty much have to leave the cylinder heads, throttle body, and intake manifold alone; but can change anything else around.

Thanks,

From what I've seen on the forum you're looking at mid 16's. For a 2G Eclipse GS to get down to 2450 pounds you're looking at basically completely gutting everything from the car. That is by no means close to stock. Your car will be a beer can with a 4 cylinder engine at that weight.

Do you know what the actual weight is on a stock 2G Eclipse? If I can't run it at a minimum of 2450 I'd have to run it 3170 pounds or heavier. at 3170 pounds I'd at least have to run a 17.45 in the 1/4.

Thanks

Yeah I gutted the entire interior minus the dash, and switched driver seats to a lightweight racing seat and the car was still 2750lbs without me in it. To get lower than that weight you'll have to delete things under the hood, cutout spare tire well, and use like a 5 gallon fuel cell.

Has anyone here ran a stock 420a 2g fwd and weighed it during the same race? Looking for an ET and weight so I can get an idea of how much faster I'd need to speed one up.

i have a near stock 420a engine besides a few bolt on parts. it has a manual transmission and with me in it it weighs 3115 give or take on how much fuel i put in it, and i run 18.4 consistently. my fastest time was an 18.16 at 75.75 mph.

Wow I was way off. I do apologize. Though I do wonder how much faster BlackKnight2013 could run at a few thousand feet lower elevation. Maybe at a lower altitude on a cool night he could bust into the 17's.

i do run at a mile high track called bandimere speedway which is a few feet higher than 5280 feet in elevation. and the fastest i went was on a cool day in may of last year. at sea level i could bust into a high 17 second time. its possible to run 17's in lower elevation in theory but to actually physically do it on a stock motor at a lower elevation would need to be proven with a physical run down the track; considering temperature, barometric pressure, humidity, and driver's handling of the vehicle (such as shifting and reaction times) are all factors.

Weight number you gave 2450lbs, I assume you have an base model ESI or RS. They curb weight stock from factory is 2900 lbs without power windows, rear disc brakes and rear sway bar. The Gs model is 3600 lbs with with all of these options.

If you havent done the RS-Esi to Gs rear suspension swap.

I recommend doing the rear drum to disc conversion. Reduce heat extra stopping power. and a Shift kit.

Also, possibly torque converter swap for a high stall one.

There's a great write up in the 420s section and what parts needed also, tool list for the rear drum to rear disc conversion. If you can't find here on dsmtuners try 2gnt.com

Thanks for your times and weight. I moved from Colorado to Birmingham a couple months ago. Bandimere is probably slower than sea level by more than 1.0 seconds in ET so I think with a "stock" car at 3175# I should be able to run mid 17's. I currently do not have a car but am looking for one. Hopefully I can find a cheap candidate in the next couple months and I'll write up a build on it. My first goal is for it to run 17.45's at 3175# while my ultimate goal is for it to run 16.30 at 3175#.

So far my mod plans are as followed -
1. Light weight front wheels and slicks
2. Higher stall torque converter
3. Shift kit (possible manual valve body can i can control what rpm it shifts at)
4. Air Intake
5. Header (without a cat)
6. Underdrive pulley
7. ECM Tune (my main goal is consistency so if I can have someone setup the computer so it doesnt change much that'll be optimum.)
8. TUNE UP (this will be the first thing i do)
