When we picked this car up it did not run, it cut out on a previous owner while they were driving and they never got to the bottom of it. We have had it for a few months now and started to look for the issues. The starter motor was already screwed so replaced that first, to see what happened when we tried to crank it. It would crank but not start, checked for fuel at the rails, which we had and you could here the fuel pump priming. Swapped out the spark plugs for new ones and changed leads as it was something I would do anyway, still no spark. I managed to get the car scanned and it had a crank sensor fault. Removed all the timing covers to find the balance shaft belt had given up and taken the crank sensor out with it, luckily the timing belt survived with very little damage.

Wow! Damn, man. You got super lucky. Change that belt, tensioner, and water pump, too.
100% it while you're in there.
Post up some pics .

So with a lot of help from a fellow UK DSM member, we replaced the timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump and pulleys, put some fresh fuel in and this was the result

Nice work, boys!!!

Woohoo!

Have done some more work on the DSM today, I have started the welding a couple of weeks ago, I am by no means a professional welder, but want to try and do as much to the car myself as possible.
I had some bad rust at the drivers side rear inner and outer sill, also some of my boot floor needed replacing.

Next job I did today was to sort the cooling system, my rad was just a little worn I think, changed the thermostat out, fitted a alloy radiator and silicone pipes, bled the system up, also rust treated the fan housing and painted it.
