So today i am taking out my stock Infinity deck and putting in an Alpine X100.(nice). Anyways, what kit do you guys reccomend? Can i get a decent one at walmart such as the metra or Scosche? I am looking for the one with the pocket below the deck itself.

Also, i am taking out my carpet and putting down FatMat sound deadner. In addition to adding it on the floor im also doing both doors and around the rear 6x9's as well. Anybody advise against this? and how many layers?

Yo you can get the harness to adapt from stock from ebay for a dollar.. I've been thinking about soundproofing my shit... do you know anything about that?

Ya actually quite a bit. Ive sound deadened my doors on all my cars. I am a huge stereo guy. it makes a world of difference. on my malibu i deadened my truck lid as well and it had no outside vibrations. It also keeps the sound of your speakers inside your car very nicely. And the drastic decrease in road noise is well worth it.

I got the Soche from Wall mart and I had to hack it together and it was just really cheap . I would stop by your local car stereo shop and buy a kit specificly made for the car.

since we are in this topic, what do you think about double din nav system in our 2g's, would it be a go or no go?

I suppose it would depend on what brand of navi it is . Some of them that I have seen have a very good fit

i've seen a system that runs of vista and contains internal hd and usb ports. i was thinking if i could run dsmlink to that and thus won't be needing a laptop anymore. would be interesting!!!

i never heard of anyone using it yet, but it should be possible since it is a mini pc. look for it in crutchfield store but i cant remember the name of it.

I've worked with both types of stereo dash install kits for the 2g. Actually 3 if you include the stock brackets.

The first single din dash install kit is the one with no pocket underneath. It's just a panel. It's actually removal, exposing a gaping hole. This seems to be the more commonly carried kit by shops these days. It install fines though, and does what it is suppose to do.

The second is the one you speak of. It has a pocket for CDs or what other trinkets you may have laying around. This also works well and installs without issue. I don't see this install kit too often at stores you can just walk in to. But easily purchased on ebay.

The one with the pocket is indeed the more desirable because of added storage which the 2g tends to lack when it is your daily driver. Also with the din pocket, it houses BOTH Greddy turbo timer and EBC together perfectly! Like it was meant to be there. Works with both the new and old style greddy tt and ebc. The other dash kit without the pocket also has another feature. The panel that just covers the hole, an be used to put switches or addition triggers, for kill switch, ricer lights, gauges, n20, etc. Makes it look very clean.

So either or will work fine, unless you desire to do one or the other things I mentioned above in which you would have to buy a specific kit.

Now, my favorite kit, which 2g owners tend to forget they already have in their car!! The STOCK stereo brackets!!!!! These are the most sturdy. It's metal/steel of sort, compared to the plastic of the other kits. You know it fits perfect because it's been there from the factory. It can house BOTH double din and single din stereos. DIN is a STANDARD, not no weird mitsu only design. ANY stereo labeled DIN/SINGLE DIN/DOUBLE DIN Will have the holes to accomodate the stock bracket. Much more stable and secure for your deck when its mounted on the OEM bracket.

So what do you do about the gaping hole if you don't get a double din deck? Easy, get DIN pockets found cheap on ebay. Now you are all set!

People are quick to get rid of their stock brackets, but the ones that know these work just fine and actually more superior are quick to snatch up. They have become rare once people find out the best install kit, we already have

Just re-use the factory brackets and pocket. Those cheap install kits are just plastic...the radio is only held in place by some bent over metal taps. I could rip that radio out of your car in 3 seconds. However the factory brackets are metal and they screw to the radio...then screw into the dash.

Most aftermarket radios have a bunch of different holes on the sides to line up with different automakers brackets. Just find the right holes that line up with your stock brackets. Then just buy a wire harness plug, and plug it in the car.

Its that simple....NO INSTALL KIT REQUIRED.
