Stereo does not work...?

I took my jvc stereo wire harness and had it soldered to an aftermarket harness for my car at an install shop and every wire is connected correctly.

My cd player (jvc) also works correctly because I plugged it into my cousin's eclipse and it worked fine, note I used his harness not mine that I had soldered. When I installed the cd player in my car it did not work at all.

So the deck works, the wires are connected right, I grounded the right wire, why doesn't it work?

Another thing to help is that I removed my stock radio a while back and when I reinstalled it I had no dome lights and whenever I turn my car off I lose all of my preset stations. Could this be related to my aftermarket cd player not working?

Could it be a fuse or my stock wiring harness, keep in mind my stock radio still works it just doen't save my stations after turning off my car.

Basically, you'll want to double check all your connections with a multimeter, but I'll try to answer your problem piece by piece.

Typically, there isn't a ground on the factory harness even though there's one on the aftermarket harness. Try grounding it to the frame of the dash. There's plenty of metal that holds the dasboard and center console in place. Go nuts.

Does just the CD not work, or does the radio not work as well?

The dome light issue is usually a bad dimmer switch. The deck not keeping your presets means that your constant +12volt (yellow JVC wire) isn't working. Check your fuses in the cabin as well as under the hood.

I have a ground wire going to the frame.

The cd player will not power on, it did though when I hooked it up to my cousins car and harness.

I'll check all my fuses, I threw in the dome light thing becuase after taking my stock radio out both the presets not saving and the dome light went out at the same time.

Get out the voltmeter and start checking the pins on the harness. You'll find out pretty quickly if you have power where you should.

Thanks guys, I just went and checked all the fuses, one was burned out. Not sure what fuse it was but it made the lights by the fuse box and the dome light go on. It works perfect now.
