Steering Column Mounted Boost Gauge [Merged 8-8] gauges pod mounts mount

I did the same mod as post #4 nearly a year ago,and love the looks. I'm thinking of getting an oil pressure gauge, and the same time have something that maybe looks cleaner. I've been looking at this Auto Meter 20024 - Auto Meter Steering Column Gauge Pods - summitracing.com and similar items on Summit's site, some for trucks and Mustangs and Lancers. I'm wondering if the Lancer cover could be modded in any way, without looking like a hack job,for a 1g? The 2g guys at least have the dual gauge trim thingy. Anyone with a Lancer and a 1g wanna see if this might be feasible? Some dimensions of the Lancer cover would be ok,to compare with the 1g cover.

Okay, so I was browsing autotrader and came across this ad. I really like how this person mounted their gauges...

What do ya'll think about this? The hardware does not look like it'd be very hard to come by. And I like the idea of having a boost gauge in site of the tach and speedo. Other than maybe blocking the 0-3k on the tach, and after 110 I see no downside. But at that speed I would be paying attention to the road.

I bet when you are actually sitting back in the seat, you can see most of the gauges. I know when I drive my car I can see more than the top 1/4 of the wheel.

for 1 the mounting looks hideous. 2 i agree with lofty with it looking bad covering the guages not to mention a couple warning lights.

If you want the gauges near the factory housing, just get one of these. Replaces the factory bezel and holds 2 gauges.

Too bad I have a first gen...

I'll tell you what. Go do it like that an every year when you get an inspection sticker youll fail for those being there. An when a cop pulls you over you'll probely get a ticket from him too.
There is no inspection in South Dakota.

How is that supposed to help the 1g guys? ROFL

To the original poster, the best options that I have found for the 1g guys are the center vents or down by the radio. I prefer the vents myself but the radio location is nice also. There is nothing available that I know of that is like the options of the 2g guys.

Oops! Missed that little part about being 1g....

I have a 1g radio bezel/aluminum insert for a single din head unit, safc, and gauge. PM me if you are interested.

When I got my car it came with one of those mounts for boost, dead center. I hated it. I removed it and found a new cover for my steering column, since it had screw holes all in it. All and all I thought it kind of looked tacky and just a hack job of sticking something where it doesn't belong. I now have 3 on the A pillar and 3 under the cd player.

i have the three mounted over the top of my cd player, can do under or over but i mounted them over the radio so its a little more in my view

Yeah I used the little half moon things to point them at the driver, hard to see in this pic though:

i got the little plastic piece that goes in the middle where the vents are. it holds three guages but the only problem is that it keeps falling out anyone had this problem or any ideas to fix it i was thinking about just glueing it in place but i want to be able to change the guages or mess with them if i have too :talon:

I used an Autometer gauge pod. Mounted mine to where only the stock boost gauge was blocked. No cel lights will be blocked,on is slighty but if it went off you would see it. I'm not a fan of pillar gauge pods or blocking my vents. I want to keep everything in front of me. I have the mount for my fuel pressure gauge that I have yet to install. Completely blocks the original. Say what you will about the looks,it's not for everyone. Function before fashion was how I was brought up :D If I get the time I may fab up a fiberglass one-piece mount, similar to the 2g's. Overall I am happy with it like it is. I saw this in a post a few years back and I can't find it now.
