This is a random question but I recently ran into a steel thrust bearing with 3 oiling holes for td05 turbos. I've been using trader Greg kits to rebuild my turbos and they come with bronze thrust bearings. Does anyone know what the benefits or drawbacs of using steel are? The steel is advertised as stronger and more resistant to wear if I remember correctly but I'm looking for somone experience with them rather then trusting an adveisement. Thanks

Just noticed title says steer...rather then steel and I can't change it, sweet LOL.

The stock are brass bearings. Honestly, I find it hard to induce any wear on the thrust bearing system on td05 when using good clean oil at 3000 mile intervals and fed the proper oil pressure from the head. Personally, I think it's unnecessary for the upgraded thrust bearing but it won't exactly hurt to use it. If it gives you peace of mind, by all means go for it.

I don't care what good clean oil you run. A td05h 20g will eat the thrust within 10,000 miles with the stock thrust at 30psi. I've been using an aftermarket 2 hole thrust, with a larger collar from jusmx, and it's holding up great. As always a high zddp oil helps a lot.
