starts then cuts right out

OK i just bought a 90 Talon TSI, This guy just rebuilt the motor.I went to look at the car it run fine bought it home. it sat for about 5 hours. When i went to start it-it runs for about 5 seconds then stalls out. then 5 seconds it is running it sounds like only on 2 cylinders.
After it stalls i can hear the fuel pump run a second after so, i know the pump is working. I thought maybe it was the out of gas and added gas but still nothing. Please help this car run great on the way home.

Get a logger - find the codes. Check spark, fuel, etc. We aren't miracle workers here, we need more to go with.
