guys i have a 2gen transmission in a 93 eclipse. you have to drill out the thin metal sheet so i did. the bolt just misses the starter by a centimeter. idk if im doing something wrong or what? has anyone ever ran into a problem like this? can anyone shine some light?

You should have paid the $20 for a 2g starter plate. maybe you need to use a 2g starter.

Just hack up the plate so it fits, done it several times, just make sure its spaced exactly what the plate would space it at.
The plate isn't the same 1g/2g and 6bolt/7bolt
Like a 2g with a 7bolt won't bolt up to a 93 7bolt engine/plate.

ohh i see what your saying. so is the top of the metal shield hitting the starter making the starter not be able to match with the bolt?
