I just rebuilt the engine in the eclipse and put it in hooked it up and everything primed it and pulled the fuse to turn it over before starting it, It turned over fine. Then put the fuse back in and heard this horrible sound first thought it was the engine but it wasnt, it was the starter not engaging the flywheel properly. So thinking it might be bad i picked up a new one, and still same issue. This is the same flywheel i used before so I know the flywheel isnt the issue. The new starter is doing the same thing also. The engine turns over just fine by hand, but the starter doesnt seem to be engaging right. I tightened all the transmission bolts, i checked the flywheel teeth all are good. I cant think what to check, I have never had this issue before. Also the timing hasnt jumped because we have checked that. I was talking to a friend today and he said something about spacers for the starter but I have found nothing DSM related to support that. And im using the same spacer plate that originally came with the car.
