I just picked up a 95 GSX a few days ago and it looks to be mostly stock, but I'm not 100% sure... but I have a few questions.

first:

does this hose connect to anything, or is it supposed to hang out there unconnected?

second:
I know the head gasket is bad, but it the car supposed to idle funny? When it's in park (it's an auto) the idle hovers around 15-1600 rpm and climbs to over 3k if i let it before it settles out (only let that happen once), but when it's in drive or reverse, the revs drop to just over 1100 (which is still high, but doesn't sound as bad as when it's in drive). Is there anything I should look for when I start tearing it down?

For the idle problem? I don't quite understand what your saying, the idle goes up and down between 1500 and 3000? What do you mean by "climbs over 3k if i let it before it settles out?"

There are multiple reason why the idle is off. Boost leak, vacumn leak, isc,...on and on
 
the hose should be some where pointing down so the excess coolant water will splash down on the ground and no where near your filter and your fuse box. are there any oil leakage?

Yea and it's smoking through the exhaust. I can see it dripping under the car. not alot, but it is a steady drip

When i start the car, it idle starts around 1500 and keeps climbing when it's in park, but as soon as it's in drive or reverse the revs immediately drop to around 1k. I'll try and get a video today to better explain it.
