hello everyone i have a ticking problem but it only happens when i first start the car. If the car is warmed up it wont do it but if i start it after its been setting a couple of hours it ticks for about 4-5 minutes then it quits. is this a serious problem and if so how can i fix it. I have a 420a non-turbo by the way.
 
Where does it seem to come from any way you could pin point that? Its possible it could be injector tick just a guess. As i said though if you could pin point or maybe get a video for everyone thatd be helpful.
 
it sounds like it is coming from in the head but im not 100% positive. i had 10w 30 in it and it was ticking and i just changed to 5w 30 because i thought i might have had some build up cause my oil not to get to the lifter till it was warmed up, but it still does it. i also use the mobile one synthetic.

the only thing that confuses me is that it quits ticking after running for about 5 minutes LOL never had a car do this before.

Or run rotella T diesel/gasoline lubricant. It still contains larger amounts of the zinc additives that allow it to better protect the motor as well as more aggresive detergents. Im sure there is a thread around here that involves diesel/gas oiling issues which will further explain and verify my statements. I will try to find and link it.

I had a 420a that started to tick after I rebuilt the motor as I didnt replace the lifters but I did however keep them in order..

I wouldnt suggest running thicker oil.. I would say run seafoam in the car... 1/3 in the oil run for about 300 miles no more than 300 miles... 1/3 in intake manifold.. use the brake boost control vacume line and the rest in the tank.. if its an injecter.. it should be cleaned out with the seafoam unless they are shot completely.. If its a lifter tick.. the seafoam will also clean them out as well as help clean up buildup inthe motor..
 
so i put 1/3 of the seafoam in with the oil for 300 miles. should i drop a little oil to make for the seafoam. 1/3 in the intake manifold and the rest of it in the gas tank.

iv never used seafoam before where can i get it and about how much does it cost, and are there any dangers in using the seafoam.
 
Im in the process of using seafoam right now. You can get it an any auto parts store for about 6 bucks. My tick hasn't gone away but I'm hoping once I flush the fluids it will show some results. And I'm using mobile1 10-w30

yeah you can get it from walmart or any other auot parts store.. you do no need to remove any oil as 1/3 a can isnt much of anything... You will still hear alittle tick after you add the seafoam but dont be discouraged untill you do the oil change..

One thing to keep in mind when your doing the seafoam in the manifold... it is going to smoke ALOT.. look up on youtube or do alittle research so you will know what you are getting into and dont freak yourself out thwn it starts to smoke like crazy..LOL
 
well guys the tick is now a knock and i do believ it is getting worse. do u think i may have a main or rod bearing going out?

if so how much of a chance is there that it has damaged my crank because this hasnt been going on but for maybe 3 weks and its just now getting to were it continues to knock when the motor is warmed up
 
When you get any knock from bearings main or rod.. i would always suggest having it turned anyways.. wont cost any more for most shops just the price of the bearings...

I wouldnt drive it till you get that fixed.. Are you sure its a knock?? do you have a vid of the tick/knock by chance?
