start up noises

i just got 1st gear in my transmission fixed at a mitsubishi dealership. i told them to also check for a weird noise when i hit boost at WOT. it sounds like a very loud cricket noise. it sometimes would make the engine stop pulling. the guys at the mitsu dealership thought it is because of my after market intercooler (just the core, stock piping (FMIC)), so they couldn't touch it. now this morning when i started it up there was a nails on a chalkboard sound. it sounded like it came from inder the hood but when i opened the hood it stoped. it only made the noise a couple of times.WTF

Is it only when the starter engages or does it happen when the motor's running after it's been started?

Is it only when you start it up in the morning? Does it sound like a belt squealing? Because 1 of my pulleys loosened up some how and in the mornings or when it was cool with a little condesation on the pulley it would cause it to squeal then stop, so if thats what it sounds like then check all of your belts for wear, and check all of your pulleys to make sure they aren't loose, I went through 2 PS/Alt belts before I figured out what was wrong, lucky mine didnt take the timimg and the head. what do you think about the cricket noise while under boost that makes the engine stop pulling (FYI it doesn't happen all of the time. it's mostly when its at WOT in 1st or when i floor it in 5th after i've been cruising for a while)
