My car is throwing a camshaft sensor circuit malfunction p0335 on start up. Symptoms are it starts for 2 seconds, idles rough, then dies. This started happening after I installed a new alternator.

I have a 95 gsx and the sensor is behind intake cam gear. I would rather avoid taking it apart because I have no knowledge of setting timing.

Anyone can give me some pointers how to go about fixing this?

The camshaft position sensor is located right under the intake cam gear. Conveniently for us (sarcasm) mitsubishi engineered and positioned the 2 10mm bolts just outside of grasp for a socket. I've tried to wrestle it before, but it seems near impossible to get to the CPS without taking the timing belt off.

Another alternative is to buy a 1G cam angle sensor and wire that in and forget about the 2g CPS/CAS.

Sounds like your CAS. It should be on the intake cam on the end towards the passenger side. Check connections and check if it's working properly. Replace if necessary.

Was this happening before the alternator replace? Did you do anything else besides remove and replace the alternator?

I had this problem once, and I took the Cam Sensor off, rotated the spindle on it 180 degrees, and put it back in. Car worked fine after that, well, better than before I suppose.
