I put in SS fuel lines, an AFPR, fuel filter, and now the car runs like crap. This thread shows how I set it up

My fuel pressure is set right, 35psi with vacuum line at idle. But the car is really hard to start at first, then stalls constantly and won't rev much past 1.5k. It pretty much won't do anything but idle.

There are no leaks in my lines, but my fuel pump assembly might be the culprit. I had a bulkhead fitting welded to the steel cap that the fuel pump inserts into, but the welders did a shitty job and the cap was at a 10* angle. Could my problem just be that the pump isn't mating up to the cap part of the assembly well enough? I know if the o-ring on the pump doesn't seal, the fuel will leak back to the tank and the car will be hard to start. But that doesn't explain the stalling.

I need advice, the car's been down for a month and a half and its starting to drive me a little nuts

35 psi with the vacuum line connected is not the correct way to set fuel pressure. It should be 43.5 psi with the line disconnected. The fuel pump not sealing could also cause issues, it sounds like you need to fix the fitting.

I believe he was saying he has 35psi with the line connected (which wouldn't be how he set it). This would be correct if he has 17 in./hg. at idle (his vacuum reading).

Which is why you are supposed to set it with the line disconnected.

I'm not saying he base the fuel pressure off of his idle. I was just doing a calculation. He sets his fuel pressure with the line off to 43.5psi (as he was told in the thread he linked to in his first post - http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt-tech/276110-custom-fuel-system.html#post151338285). Then he connects the vacuum line and it drops according to how much vacuum he is seeing. If he is seeing 17 in./hg., then that would make his fuel pressure with the line connected 35psi (since fuel pressure drops 1psi for every 2 in./hg.). I'm not trying to argue with you as to how to set fuel pressure. But he was told before how to set it and hopefully he did. But 35psi with the vacuum line attached sounds about right. If I'm not making sense, please let me know. Sometimes this stuff makes sense in my head, but I can't put it into words.

It does make sense and you are probably right about what the pressure should be. I know you're not saying it's ok to set the fuel pressure to 35 psi with the line connected, but there are a ton of idiots out there that will take it that way. Then we'll have a shit ton of people asking why their car idles like shit and they'll swear the fuel pressure is set correctly.

Haha, very true. Between them and the people asking about venting... :toobad:

Yep, same situation. They read a thread about the ONE guy that did it with no problems, and the next day there's 50 people with vented bov's asking why their car dies all the time.

Eh, my thread got a little derailed. I set fuel pressure like you all said to, it idles perfect but that's all it'll do. I have no idea how to bend the cap on the assembly so its back to the stock position. Could I get away with installing the pump at an angle?

I would take it back to the person that welded it and ask them if they can fix it. If you paid them, then they should definitely fix it. It shouldn't be too hard to cut it off and weld it on correctly.
