ST Sway Bar Install on 1G

Is there a DIY somewhere on this? Does the rear go in place with the stock one still there and I just remove the front? Or do both stock ones stay in place or removed?

DSMs dont come with sway bars on them, so someone before you must have put them on there..

This thread has some info, I didn't read it too much. Do some searching on "sway bar" and you will find plenty. Or check the tech articles.

AWD's should have swaybars, and if you get new ones, you replace, not add. If you are missing one for some reason the mounting spots will still be there.

Only Non-turbo 2G's didn't come with a swaybar and it was only a rear one. They still came with front swaybars.

1g AWD's *should* have front and rear. I had heard that it wasn't worth it to upgrade them, only to add one if you were FWD. I'm sure it can have DRASTIC effects on how the car handles, so I hope you know what you are doing. Good luck because it's no doubt going to suck messing with 10yr old rusty ass bolts. I'd recommend doing new poly bushings while you have everything out. Hoping one of the handling wisemen steps in...

I think you are referring to a strut tower brace.

I just noticed... the front one does not get removed. And like someone said... you will have issues with a 3" Turboback. The shop is fabbing up some custom spacers so that the ST Bar can go under the exhaust. Does anyone think I will have clearance issues? I guess I wont be able to lower the car much with my JIC's

I have full 3in exhaust and I didnt have any problems with the install/clearence.

The front Sway Bar is an add-on. I think it will help.

Now I am debating wether or not to get the Active Toe-Elimanator from DSS

what in the world? 1g dsm suspensions don't like to be upgraded? swaybars are not worth it? uh, wow. first, 1gs don't like to be slammed, but they benefit greatly from suspension upgrades. next, swaybars are always worth it. unless you are riding around on blown shocks or something crazy.

both the st and rm will fit with a 3inch exhaust.
as far as spacers for a swaybar, it seems to me that those would defeat the purpose of getting the bar. if you move the mounting points, then the stresses on the bar get all jacked up and it won't act as designed. i would think. not only that, but you've added another piece in there that does have stress put on it, and thats something that will probably break.
rear toe eliminator should be a high priority for 1g's that want to turn well. as well as a good set of shocks/struts.
