So the wife and I just left St Louis visiting a buddy that I served with in the army. So far we are loving the area and the atmesphere of the area and the people. We have been really thinking of the possibility of moving here from Michigan. Of course I'm sure it's one of those in the moment things for us and it's no way a final decision. I also have to take into account I'm a Detroit fan :thumb:. So I'm trying to get a feel of how big the DSM community is in the st Louis and surrounding area? It was literally just me in my home town.

Also, any reputable DSM shops in the area?

theres a site called gatewaydsm. I would check that out. Im from very near stl on the ill side in a small country town. If you move down, PM me and ill send you my email/phone number. We can get some guys together im sure. First i need my engine back! Should be back up n running very soon. Less than 2 weeks. Hit me up bro

Yea go check out gatewaydsm.org also as long as your not a hockey fan Detroit is fine ;).
But there are a bunch of dsmers in STL that are ways willing to lend a hand on gatewaydsm.org

I wouldn't let adrenaline touch anything dsm related. Matt at HTP is the only person that i would trust.

Ive heard of htp. Hey, any good machinist for the 4g63 around here while were talking stl dsm stuff?
I had a go around with a guy across the river. Didnt turn out well, it s back in again. They cut crank wrong was the best guess. Just curious, sorry to Thread Jack OP, but this may be of use to use stl guys including you one day.

Well not to worried about having a DSM shop nearby for getting work done purposes, but its more for parts. I have nothing but bad luck ordering online so I'd rather have a shop I can swing into and order them in person and have someone knowledgable so that I stop buying the wrong damn parts:ohdamn: :p

I sell parts in the metro east, which might be a little farther than you would want to drive to grab parts (although do-able) but I could hook you up with a parts person in the city I'm sure. In otherwords, yes, we sell parts here. :D

Don't move here unless you are okay with frost, rain, tornadoes and a humid 90 degrees all within about 48 hours. It's not unusual. ROFL

NOTHING, i mean NOTHING like stl weather. The city and suburbs not so bad, come across the river in illinois or west of stl and tornadoes have been hittin hard every year lately. And of course the ridiculously hot summers and cold winters. I honestly hate the weather here. But, check out the forecast this week: beeeeeautiful.

I've always heard good stuff about phase II, but I've never taken anything there.

I've used Seleinrieck(sp)in Manchester before to do machining for turbo related stuff because I could get it in quick. They always did a good job. They are kind of high though even on simple jobs like cutting a backplate. If they charge $50 to cut a backplate, I'd assume they charge $50 to do rotors!

For engine machine work, Dwayne at Southside City Speedshop at Bates and Gravois is the man. Nicest guy on the planet, great work, reasonable. I've had a lot of stuff done by him over the years, and he has done some really nice 4g63. I don't think most local dsm'ers know this, but he is also a really good tuner. He's done a lot of DSm's, and can run through ECMlink's software with his eyes closed. And like I said, he is really cool. He is one of those guys where if a complete stranger shows up with some kind of problem with a fitting, or making something work, or fit, Dwayne will drop what he is doing and use everything at his disposal to get them setup.

For welding, I always use this guy named Matt Keating. You can find him on Craigslist. He will come out to your house and he is cheap as hell and does a great job. He builds demolition derby cars all year, so he is one of those people who can make ANYThING work, but he isn't a hack by any means.
