I'm trying to figure out how much pressure drop the ssauto chrome/ xspower intercooler with short piping there is? I got an offer on one on here for a good price. But i alos got an offer from a tuning shop in chicago willing to do me a 3inch piping and huge FMIC setup for 225$ because i buy so much from them and let them sticker up my car but it has a .15 pressure drop and at 20 PSI that only gives me 17 psi due to a 3psi drop.

Somebody chime in if I'm wrong. It depends on the turbo and how much air you are pushing. With a small t25 you don't even need the upgrade as it fails to even add hp around 17 psi. I see that you don't have many mods. May I ask why you are upgrading in the first place? Do you have other mods in store or is this just the I.C.?

If run a different turbo then the T-too small, the pressure drop wont even be noticeable. Hell even put a 14b on there and you'd be happy.

:talon:I'm finishing up my motor with 9:1 compression. 272 cams. s16g with bullseye oversize exhaust side ported and polished and evo 02 housing ported and polished. External 38mm wastegate. MAFT gen II. RFL BOV, 255 hp LPH fuel pump. MEgan FPR. Just notdone so haven't updated. Hallman pro Rx evolution kit controller. innovative lc1.

Plan on running about 22-24 psi because after that turbo isn't as efficient from what i see. thats just to get all broke in and will eventually upgrade to bigger turbo once i get used to this setup.

For most smaller turbos like a T-25 or 14b, a fmic will not give you the biggest bang for your buck just to clarify. Turbos that are that small dont flow enough air to fill those larger pipes and thats when you start to see pressure drop. with your 16g, 3" ic piping is probably borderline since its a small 16g. Even with 22psi, that turbo will flow less air than a larger turbo on 22psi. In otherwords, if your going to get a bigger turbo later, i would skip the front mount for now until you get that turbo, because the pipe size and core size that you will get for a 16g might be different than what you would want for a 50 trim or something larger.

Def dont get 3" piping. 2.5" is good even for larger turbos.

I am more concerned about how much pressure loss a SS autochrome has.

.15 is not a percent pressure drop. I hope it's not anyway. .15 would be the difference between the inlet pressure and the outlet pressure, at 20psi you'll get 19.85psi.

You will get a lower pressure drop from a smaller turbo pushing smaller amounts of air. For a given intercooler area higher CFM through it will cause a higher velocity on the inside and require a greater amount of pressure or "head" to push it through.

Go with whatever front mount makes you happy. 3" pipes are not needed.

all u did was subtract. to get a presssure out of a .15 percent drop it's essentially 15% so u would take say 20 psi times .15 and get 3. then subtract 3 from 20 and get 17psi. what i would like to know is say an average psi drop say on a small 16g if anyone has measured it on their ss autochrome. mine has the bullseye exhaust housing.

Yeah, that's what I'm telling you. Pressure drop isn't a percentage, it's a pressure value for a given flow rate.

Lets say pressure drop is 1 for 500cfm, it won't matter if that 500cfm is at 8psi or 30psi, it's still going to require 1psi to get 500cfm across the intercooler.

Intercoolor Theory

If someone is selling you an intercooler that has a pressure drop based on a percentage of boost, I wouldn't buy it from them.

The short answer is, you're not going to be pushing the 16g that hard to worry about it with any FMIC.
