Hi just spun my balance shaft bearing. Do i need to remove the engine completely to remove the front case? Would it be possible to just buy a new bearing and pound it in? Thanks

well first i would check out the damage. you may not need a bigger one. but if you do need a special sized one im not exactly sure where you could get one. i had this same problem before. i forget where i got the bigger bearing from though.

I just spun a B/S bearing a couple months ago. I was driving along and the engine stopped turning. The oil pump sprocket seized because the shaft was catching on the bearing.

It ended up destroying the teeth on my timing belt. Luckily, i didn't jump enough teeth for the valves to hit. So what'd I do? I walked to advance, bought a new timing belt, and put it on right along side the road. $40 belt was cheaper than a $150 tow bill. And I wasn't far from home.

Took the risk of really messing up the engine. I made it though. Then I ordered a BSE kit. My advice, pull the motor out. Messing with the balance shafts are a PITA as it is, let alone when the engine is still mostly in the car. You have to at least lower the engine so you can remove the front shaft anyway so while you have all the mounts out, I'd take the extra 10 mins to disconnect everything else to yank it out.

You will thank yourself. Trust me. Also, read up on the BSE before considering it. May not be something you want to do.
