ok just a quick question about spot weld cutting bits. I have started removing my door rocker panels using a standard drill bit and was wondering if any one has used the spot weld bit harbor freight sells? worth buying or should I just keep center punching and drilling them out? I'd just like to avoid extra work because I still have a long way to go on this from the ground up build.
I've drilled a couple holes all the way through both panels already and am getting leery on how much of a pain its going to be to fill them back in after i'm done the rust removal......its been a while since I've been behind the helm of a mig.

Here's the holes I've drilled: :)sneaky:)

Definitely get the spot weld bit, it takes like one tenth the time to drill thru one weld as a normal bit because it drills around the weld opposed to drilling thru it. What kind of car is this?

ok thank's for the answer bryan much appreciated. Its my 92 talon tsi, 95% stripped for rust removal and overhaul. I'm trying to do everthing right the first time instead of having to go back and fix stuff later on down the road.
After I get all the cancer off I can finally move on in my build.:hellyeah:

Oh and what size bit do I need? do you know?
I just hope harbor freight ships to Canada or i'll have to find some one states side to pick 3 up for me and ship them up.

They only sell one size of spot weld bit at harbor freight. You can also find them at other stores, i would hit up some auto parts stores before ordering one online. You should be able to find one for less than 10 bucks. As for getting the rocker off. They are kind of a pain. You won't be able to get the whole rocker off because it extends behind the quarter panel. I just leave about an inch sticking out and butt weld the new one to the part sticking out. There are a few that you will have to get from under the dash also, but overall it isn't too bad of a job.

I've searched every auto store in my city looking for spot weld drill bits and no such luck, most places had no clue what I was talking about.:toobad:
So I basically have to order online to get them.
Ya I seen that it extends roughly an inch behind the quarter panel so I started there first and drilled those out, and since I have it right down to just the chassis I believe I have access to all the rest of the welds.

IT goes further into the quarter than what it looks like. The replacements that i bought would go about 8 inches into the quarter, but i just cut it off because i didn't want to remove the quarter panel to replace it.

Harbor freight Spot weld bits work just fine, and for the price completely adequate, however the teeth are prone to chipping, so use a good cutting fluid.

The Spot weld Bit leaves a nice round hole, making "re-welding" a snap.

I have used this tool on a few radiator cross members on DSM's Civics, and my good old 1990 dodge d350.
