speedo not working

just thought of another problem on the 95 tsi... the speedo does'nt work but, everything else in the cluster does.. have'nt pulled it out yet to look at it.. any ideas? also is it cable driven or electric.

Easy fix, look at your transmission towards the firewall side, you should see a post like thing coming out of it with an electrical connector on it, that is the vehicle speed sensor. Make sure it's plugged in, sometimes it slips out.

I read that somewhere earlier.. Is that the only possibility other than the sensor itself being bad, since the rest of the cluster funtions properly, or is there a separate connector that runs the speedo on the back of the cluster itself?

There is another connection at the back of the cluster, and the sensor might be bad, but what I said earlier is your best bet.

So your sayin that the speedo connection is separate from the rest on the cluster? cause once i start lookin at this shit later i won't be runnin back and forth to the computer with my dirty paws.. i have a ton of shit to fix on this car. my girlfriend is dying to drive it.. i told her there where gonna be problems and shit breaks all the time on these things but she insisted on buying it anyway.

My advice is go make sure that the connector I talked about is on tight, and take it for a spin around the block. If that doesn't fix it, come back and post here.

I've already pissed off half the neighbors here.. yea car already got keyed.. { too bad they did'nt know it was gettin repainted} hahah and its like 5 in the morning so i'll check it in a couple hours when i take the lil one to school. it ###### is that. the motor was just put back in not too long ago.

so i check the connection at the speed sensor... did'nt fix it.. im gonna unclip it and maybe hit it with some air..
