Changed the radio out in my 2g and accidentally wired the cigarette lighter backwards :ohdamn: :(. Next thing you know I bolted everything back up, turned on car, and it started to smoke. Quickly turned off car, wired everything back up correctly then I noticed speedo didn't work. Wondering if I fried the speedo or what. Fuses are good and even changed the vss.

Dumb questions, but have you checked all the fuses in the driver's side foot well? If you just changed the VSS, are you sure you hooked all the wires back up. Check dumb things first! Paint in your avatar looks fresh btw.

Checked all fuses twice, under hood and driver side ones. I changed the VSS after noticing the speedo didnt work thinking maybe that went. Everything is hooked up right with that. I took out radio again and wired it back up. Thinking my best bet is to get a diagnostics.
And thanks :thumb:

Take the cluster out, and visually inspect look for brown spots, bloated caps etc. If my memory serves me correctly there are a couple small cylindrical fuses attached to the board on the cluster. To get this straight.. You had a working speedo, installed radio, then had a non-working one. Nothing else was changed?

Everything looks right on the back. Had a working speedo, changed the radio and wired cigarette lighter outlet backwards, that smoked, changed it back, went for drive, speedo wasn't working.

Is the speedometer it's self not working or are the lights not working? I connected my cig. lighter wires together once accidentally checking to see if a LED switch I had worked or not. The wires accidentally crossed and I lost cluster lights and tail lights. I believe it was the tail light fuse in the fuse box under the dash.

Maybe give that a try.

im willing to bet the speedo in the instrument cluster just died probably gonna have to try out a buddys instrument cluster to be sure. sucks cause that throws off the odometer and your milage aint ever right. maybe like two years ago after doing some electrical work my speedo also died. never saw smoke tho? but nothing was wrong my car. later just turned out to be a coincidence. im more than willing to bet this is all that happened to you.

borrow a buddys cluster just for the test purpose. bet your speedo will work

Was thinking about doing that.

Also im going to check wires soon when I get time. Ill keep yaw posted, thanks.

fuse # 8 in the junction block is for the speedo . the junction block is the fuse box under the dash on drivers side by the foot rest . counting top left is fuse # 1 then going to right and starting from left again . see if that fuse has power . also is your cigaret lighter working .
