So my speedo recently went out on me, first thing I jumped on was replacing the VSS. I bought mine at Pep Boys (Borg Warner BWD part) and I actually had to splice into the factory wiring in order to hook up the new connector. No instructions were included on connecting the wiring, and the colors on the wires weren't the same (no way to hook up based on color code). So my question is has anyone else put one of these aftermarket ones into their car, and know which wire hooks up to which one? Or is there any other way of testing out the connection or the sensor before I go into depth with other problems it may have? Thanks in advance.

Pull the sensor out put a drill on the end spin it and your speedo inside the car should rise if not try different wiring if it does rise then your speedo gear inside the trans is bad

Had the same issue with my talon. Hooked up a scan tool that displays live data. One of the information it displays is vehicle speed. If the scan tool displays correct speed, and the speedo does not, it's the gauge cluster. If display shows an incorrect number, ie 0, you might have messed up with splicing the new vss, or like people said, the incorrect vss.

My issue was the gauge cluster. Replaced it and confirmed issue fixed. Only problem if had was the extra 18k miles new cluster had more then my oem one.

Thanks never thought of that one! At work they got one of those scanners so that's definitely something I gotta try. Hoping it won't be the cluster, the VSS sounds like it'll be an easier fix LOL.

Don't understand how the drill thing would work if the connector can't be hooked up to the drill to read the signal? Lol

It takes two people you have one sit inside the car and the other under the hood. You leave the sensor connected to the plug as well as the plastic gear. You connect the drill to the speedo gear. You then turn the ignition to on and spin the drill slowly and if wiring is correct and sensor is good then your speedometer will rise as the drill spins. If the speedo reads then you have a bad speedo connect or no speedo connect into the trans. If it doesn't read then you have either a bad vss a bad connection, wiring incorrect or a bad cluster.
