hey all
just a quick question - i'm thinking about buying some reverse glow gauges from speedhut.com and i was just wondering if anyone knows for sure whether or not you have to remove the needles to install the gauges or not. i e-mailed them, and they said that they will just slide over the needles.. but i don't see how you can slide over the gauges where the needles point toward eachother.
anywho
any input appreciated
thanks a lot!

p.s. what's the chance of F'ing up my gauges?:)

I'm waiting for a set to arive in the mail as we speak. Once they get here I'll let you know :thumb:

your not suposed to have to remove them - keep in mind you can move them around so they are not pointing at each other with out taking them off.

when i did mine - i did removed them just because it was easyer.
I used a data logger to get them right again.

cool slipstream

dave: so you can move the needles as much as you want without worrying about making them inaccurate?
sexy sig. very nice car.

That's what i did. They were alittle bit off so i just used my logger to get them right. I think they are more accurate now than they were before i took them off (except the gas gauge, but i set it up so it goes empty right when the gaslight comes on instead of hitting empty after it comes on).

my gas light comes on after i've been on E for a while :p

but that's cool. so just in case i decide to go that route, how do the needles come off? any special trick? or just give it a yank?

also, i guess while i'm at it. i havn't looked at the trip meter reset button. i know on the 1G cluster you can just yank on that and it comes out. is it the same with the 2G?
thanks again :thumb:

I used a fork to take mine off. For the trip meter, the guages should just have hole there so i slides right through.

ok, cool

my 1G had a little bit of a "knob" on the top of the reset button and it didn't fit through the hole in the cover. i havn't looked at my 2G yet though.

Okay, they arrived today and I installed them.

The speedo and rpm both fit right over the needles. They also clear the trip odomerter reset pin and needle stops without a problem.

The two smaller faces for the oil/boost and water temp/gas fit over the needles but required some finesse and also removal of the 4 black screws on the face of each gauge.

Overall, they were a bit of a pain in the ass to install, I'll likely be pulling them out and doing some minor tweaking before I'm truly happy with the results. Overall they work as advertised, the blue isn't quite as cobalt as I had hoped for, but wasn't bad. The inverter when cranked up to full brightness produces a light, but audible high pitched whine, but I expected that.

If you want any more info just let me know :thumb:

very cool

so you didn't tweak out any of your gauges during the process?

if you could take night pics, that would be very cool. i'm also ordering blue ones. (are yours reverse or el glo?)

did you get the "upgrade inverter" or no? just curious.

also not sure what you mean about the reset button and the needle "stops without a problem"

EDIT: ooooh, "needle stop"... gotch ya after i read it a few times.. hehe

thanks a lot :D

upgraded inverter=yes

Yeah, I was being extra cautious with the new faces. While I didn't have to remove the needles, I did end up removing the smaller gauges from the cluster completely in order to get things to fit properly...like i said it was a pita. Again, I didn't have to remove the needles (didn't mean the process is any easier) but i've verified all my gauges are still as accurate as they were...heh. night pics this weekend maybe.

I would really like to see some of your speedhut guages night/day shots. The ones i'm really interested in are the Jet Black Reverse El-Glo...i dont like the white faces...

ditto ;)

mine are jet black, blue reverse el-glow style, I'll snap some pics this weekend for you gents.
(I'm not big on white faces either and prefer subtle refinements to my car..thus they have no logos or text on them either.

As promised. Pics are big, but within regs.

oh, wow dude
that's Fing awesome

why are the needles so orange? how did you do that?
i bought some red LEDs from superbrightleds.com to make my needles red

let me know
very nice work
looks awesome

edit:
did you mess up your tach? or is your car off? if you car is off, why is your oil pressure gauge up?
just curious

Those needles are the stock orange..I haven't touched them yet, but once i start installing my autometer cobalt gauges I may be toying with them to make the needles match.

The car had just been shut off, so no rpm, but the oil pressure gauge was still bottoming itself out. my oil guage has always been a little laggy like that, but no worries, it's going to get supplemented with a real gauge shortly.

oh, weird
your camera must just make the colors look way different

does the blue still look about right?

thanks again

yeah, the colors are fine. In the absence of other light digital cameras tend to make any colored lights in the shot more vivid. You'll be happy with the color :thumb:

those are precisely what i wanted. Thank you for making up my mind for me. Now tell me, were they easy to install...what did it entail?

I talked briefly about the install earlier in the thread.
The speedo and tach were easy. The two smaller clusters were a pain in the ass, but not impossible.

Did anybody else get a gauge from speedhut? if you do i would like to see some pictures!!!

Thanks

Those look awesome. has any one changed needles along with there guages I looked on speed hut but didnt seen any options.

Any one tryed http://www.importintelligence.com/

sorry to be off topic just seen them arround for a while and wanted to get feed back from the community

when i put my gauges in my 1st gen, i took out those annoying orange plastic pieces that turn the lights that orangy color on the odometer and trip meter... It is now just a nice plain easy to read white light...

I have a set of the importintelligence gauges in my 92 talon. I would post pics but no camera. Their a little on the expensive side but i like them and Nobody knows where i got them from  Ill try to get a couple of pics of them
