Toronto,
Hey

I picked up a stage 3 for a fwd talon 91 last year. I drove car for about 1200km in city along with drag runs and dyno pulls. After having a problem with tranny I went a head and see why clutch was not working. After having car on host to do a timing bely just along with upgrades I went ahead to have my tranny built. After pulling out the tranny this is what I found of left of my spec clutch (PICS)

wow, I have that same clutch and thier flywheel too in my 2g. I hope that doesn't happen to me.

Those are some pretty serious heat marks. I'm not surprised it destroyed itself like that.
Of interest, though, is that it seems like only half of the "pucks", "paddles", "pads" or whatever you may like to call them, were making decent contact.

Spec Stage 2+ owner,

Sheesh dude, how were you driving that thing??? That thing looks like it's been slipped really bad. Looks like the outside of the pucks are gone but looks as though the inside portion of it really got hot on that pressure plate. You can even look at the pressure plate where it broke off and see the discoloration on the inside of the metal. 1200km??? Well whatever the case, let us know if they warranty it or what happens with that thing.

I've had awesome results with them on my Dsm's and Mustang and have another one sitting in my bedroom floor ready to go in my Eclipse tonight.

I have seen several similar clutch failures from Spec clutches.

Key questions: was the flywheel resurfaced and checked for proper step height prior to clutch installation? What were the torque values used when the pressure plate was installed?

Sorry to see the failure; be happy that the pressure plate didn't scatter (like it did in my friend's car recently) and take out the engine bay.

Spec will likely NOT warrant their product; when my friend's pressure plate exploded, he had around 500-600 miles on it, no launches or racing; Spec told him that he must have downshifted into 2nd instead of shifting into 4th to cause that kind of damage. They made excuses for the failure, instead of admitting a failed product and covering the manufacturer warranty.

I will continue to stay away from Spec.
