Okay so i purchased my spec stage 2 clutch from titan motorsports a year ago for 280 shipped. Ive since put 20k miles on it. I was pleased with it but sometimes on launches it would slip, but i think that was just me being lazy. So my trans broke a shift fork and i decided to throw in a jacks stage 2.1 and while everything was off i decided to check out the clutch. What i found was one spring about to come out and the little spring in the middle was floating around in the flywheel. Two other springs tore the metal holding them in as well. The clutch had plenty of life left and measured in at .311 The pressure plate didnt have any hot spots and still had the CNC marks still. Anyways heres some pictures. I just wanted to give some insight and a heads up.

Im now going with the Spec pressure plate with a Clutchnet Solid hub street disc paired to a fidanza flywheel.

I had the problem as you bro with my spec 3+ and they popped out with even less miles than you. I sent it back and Jeremy hooked me up, he took my fullfaced disc which was still in great shape. And replace the sprung hub with a solid hub. I havnt had one issue yet and have atleast a 100 or so launches on it from 5250rpm. So the advice is if you get a spec clutch get a solid hub disc.

Yeah i wish i would have. how long did you have the clutch before that happened. I think im out of warranty though. Do you think they will still honor the warranty. It would be nice to have a spare but a solid hub. This is my second clutch that threw the springs.

Ive had this happen to me TWICE!! Both were replacements from a Kragen/Oreily parts store.. Ive had way too many clutches in this damn car.. I dont remember why I had to replace it the first time but I bought an Exedy "stage 2" off Ebay, (twas a long time ago!! LOL) within 600 miles the splines on the disc stripped out.. Got an OEM replacement from the parts store, worked great for a couple years, then a spring popped out. Changed it and got another replacement, within a year that one had a spring fail again.. Soo, I contacted Tim Z and he hooked me up with a South Bend unit.. Been two years and still kickin!!

Yeah so i contacted spec sent him pictures, and specs of the clutch. He replied saying he could send me another one for $135 plus shipping. For only having 8k miles on the damn thing and not driving it hard enough to do that damage i was pretty disappointed with his resolution. Well now i know i would never recommend a spec clutch to anyone, and i used to swear by them (in mustangs and dsm's). I just went with a clutchnet solid hub organic street disc instead. It was only $105 shipped.

So if anyone is reading this stay away from spec, this is not a freak accident but normal for their sub par quality.

Also i just got an email back from jeremy saying my clutch has a lot of wear at .312 clutch disc thickness. I was under the impression factory was .315 and that what it was when i measured it factory. He says "Assuming that this kit is from last year sometime these start out at .350" so you actually have much more than .002" of wear."

Key word sometimes. LOL what great quality control, and .350 is super thick, can anyone else confirm this?

Keep at um bro till they listen. I was trying to tell them the metal holding the springs in is not strong enough, but they didnt wanna hear it. It said it was the design on the cars fault because we don't use pilot bearings. But I would use spec again and plan to just with a solid hub disc. Everything else I got from them was flawless and is holding up great. I run the stage 3+ full face unsprung disc with spec aluminum flywheel.

He told me the same shit about the pilot bearing and that i had excess play in my input shaft. WTF its a brand new Jacks stage 2.1 All i know is i was very disappointed with their customer service.

Ya my trans is new also and had prob 60k on the oem clutch I took out and that thing still looked perfect. If its the trans then why would the oem clutch last and not there's. All in all spec isn't to bad just stay away from the sprung hub.
