Hey guys.
I recently installed new speakers, headunit, and a new amplifier and I'm having some problems. I have infinity kappas in the front and rear, and a 4 channel kicker amp 60watts per channel. Now whenever I turn the volume up and it gets loud, the power to the speakers cut off and the amp goes into protection mode. What can be the cause of this?
thanks

perhaps an Ohmage conflict.

did you replace all 6 speakers?

rear, door, and dash? Dash speakers typically are a different ohmage than the other 4. id go in and make sure the OHMS matchup correctly.

you cant mix and match Ohmage on speaks.

you can mix the ohm loads on the amp but if you did six speakers you probably put to much of a load on the amp and need to wire atlest one pair in series so your amp will work without cuting out on you if you give me more info i can help you out

1 number of speakers and each speakers ohm load
2 amp info(brand and model # ,number of channels what ohm load its stabel to)if any of the channels are bridged
3 head units rca voltage output
4amps and crossover and eq gain settings

stuff like that and ill be able to send you in the right direction :thumb:

hey...i'm running 4 speakers...the dash ones were just disconnected and i mounted my tweeters on the door.

4 speakers each with 4 ohm load
amp is kicker 350.4 60watt rms at 4 ohms
my head unit's rca voltage output is 2.2v
and the amp is running at less than rms for each set of speakers right now...i'd say around 45watts
thanks for the help

oh yeah, and i also noticed that this ''cut-off' doesnt happen when i took out the wires for my front component speakers from the amp. when i had the amp only powering the rear speakers, the volume went up wihtout a problem. when the amp is wiring both sets of speakers or only the component, the amp cuts off power after a certain level.

if you have a 'bridge' button, make sure it's not pushed in - also, if there is a level knob on the amp, don't turn it all the way up

what timm said, plus check to see that you wired the crossover network correctly. by the way where did you mount the tweeters.

Lol my amp just started doing the same thing. I have two 12" Kicker Solo Barics and a 3600watt 2-way kicker amp and my protection light started coming on a few weeks ago. I took the amp out of my dad's car and put it in mine and it was fine for about a week, then the fuse blew, and i replaced it and it did the same thing. Tomorrow morning I'm having a friend come over to take a look at it, we're thinking it's a short somewhere throughout the wiring.

If I were you, I'd double check you're wiring. Top of the line amps have a protection setting on them so that the fuse doesn't blow.

Also, in my old truck I remember having to turn the gain down some because it would hit too hard and cause the subs to automatically shut off and go to protection mode. Make sure you're not over working the amp. Hope this helps

First try and check your ground. Id say alot of problems always go back to a ground, but in your situation it sounds like like the amp is clipping.

sounds like you are trying to make things "Louder" with the gain control... or you have a bad speaker whose tinsel lead is shorting out when the cone moves to a certain point.

thanks for the help guys
im gonna try and check a lot of the things u guys mentioned.
my gain isn't even at rms, which makes the situation even more frustrating.
what should the switch on the amp for crossover be at? off, hi, lo? its on off and im still hearing sound from the tweeters, though i doubt this is the problem
thanks

try wireing the rear set in series so you not puting such a load on the amp and if you have a componet set put it on full if its got a good midrange but if it sounds distorted either get a better mid or a inline crossover so the mid doesnt try to play lower than it should or set it to hi as a temperary fix

also what do you mean your gain isnt at rms

you set the gain to match the input coming through your rcas

Sorry but that is about the most retarded thing i have ever heard of.

why would you want to wire your rear speakers up so they are in mono?

Figure out what the problem is and correct it... don't try and patch around it

what happend when your gains were at 1/4?

I bet the problem disappeared.

it's a 4 channel `tard...

with all 4 wired he is at 4 ohms

4 ohm speaker on each channel.

u r full of poopy. I recommend you STFU and never give stereo advice again as it is apparent that you have no knowledge whatsoever.

negative feedback given. :notgood:
